What kind of sick mind is that. They give myriad excuses for all that wasted money, but think a $10 tax is too much if it goes toward someone who needs $9, but got the $10.
How can these people not see how selfish and paradoxical it is?

And these are the same people who see Clinton's daliance as worse than Bush's bloodletting. I just can't wrap my brain around that.

I think it is because you misunderstand their motives. They do not think that money is wasted, for that money goes to the corporations who make the materials for war, the contractors who receive and dispense those materials, corporations like Halliburton, Cheney's company, who make billions in no bid contracts in Iraq, etc. Over 400 billion is said to have been spent on Iraq, most of that is gravy for Bush supporters, corporations who make huge profits providing for war. A friend once told me we have socialism for the rich in this country, while we have democracy for the rest of us who must fend for ourselves. War is extremely big business with massive profit potential. They think it is perfectly alright to help themselves to the public Treasury, but somehow lose their enthusiasm when it comes to feeding a hungry child. It takes a while to really appreciate the mindset that is behind this behavior. Sick is not a bad word for it, although I tend to favor words with a darker tone than that.

I have a problem with this whole thing. The question, the answers... all of it. We are not over there just to kill people. And to all the people answering who think people who need government assistance are just lazy....... Both sides of this are very personal to me. I used to need government assistance because me and my now husband got pregnant (and yes i was on birth control. depo provera.) when we were dirt poor. We had always just suffered through it. When that unexpected life came to us, we couldn't let her go hungry like we used to. So we got government assistance. We kept looking for work. We had no education and no experience. But we worked our asses off. We both got our GED's, I am now in college and opening my own business, and my husband is now in the military. In Iraq.
His little brother may be joining him there in the next month or two. His mother has watched all of her children join. They did not join thinking about killing people. They joined to support their falilies, their countries and to help people. They are over there to help people. Whether they want our help or not, i don't know. Whether there are underlying kickbacks for certain people i dont know. I do know that we are there to help the everyday citizens. And as far as government help goes, yes there are people who take advantage of it, but there are an even greater number of people who truly do need the help. If it hadn't been for the few years we got help, i don't know where we would be, or what we would have had to have done to provide a safe warm home and food to eat for our daughter. And as far as the government not giving enough? how much is enough? yes, life can be hard, and people need help, but do you know how many countries do not help their poor citizens? In a lot of places it's "oh well". And there are a lot of people who use the system because they are lazy. the guy i left before i met my husband got food stamps cause he "didn't feel like eating store brand food". he was a single white male paying rent in a house his parents owned and making $8/hr. and people like that are the reason people get upset about paying taxes for W-2 and food stamp programs. There are a lot of things that gov. money needs to go for, not just to help the less fortunate.

Maybe all of you should realize there is no all wrong or all right. No black or white (no cute rhyming intended). it's all in color.

Why are you having problems with this is simple. You can not see past your hate and will not hear any one out.

The US is not the one doing the killing in Iraq we are trying to stop it.

If the Dem had won back in 2000 9/11 still would have happened and we would still be at war.

It is not a $10 tax to give $9 it is more a $10 tax to give .50 to a person that is just to lazy to work hard.

The only reason the Dems want to give that .50 is to buy a vote and keep their foot on the persons neck.

It has been proven that Republican households give more to charity than any other. Most people on aid could make a living for themselves if they really tried. Not all of them are so bad off that they have no family, bodily movement, or other means of support. Of course, I guess it all depends on the unbringing you had; either one with a strong work ethic, or one with a strong belief that other's should pay your way.

I must have missed the news on what ever $10 taxes you are that you are questioning. What is it a tax on? If it if cigarettes alcohol I am all for it. If it is just another tax to to continually increase the welfare rolls without "means of need" test then no...I don't care to have more of my hard earned money to go to that. WAIT...before everyone goes ballistic...I am more that happy to support assisting to those who truly need it..supporting citizens that actually need the help is one of the great things of the US.

And you are either ill informed, ignorant of prone to exaggerations because we have not spent trillions of dollars to kill Iraqi's or even in Iraq. And if you are prone to exaggerations...then perhaps you are exaggerating about your $10 figure in your question.

And the only Iraqi's we intentionally kill are the ones trying to kill us.

Because in the minds of some Republicans--it's for a greater cause.
Need proof of that then look no further than Barbara Bush (Bush41's wife) who said, when victims of Hurricane Katrina were being huddled in the Astrodome in Houston, "Almost everyone I've talked to said we're going to move to Houston. What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by all the hospitality. And so many of the peoples in the arena here, you know, they're underprivileged anyway, so this--this is working very well for them."
In their [Republicans] minds, everything is just fine on the home front, but they're willing to do whatever it takes to win this war--especially if they're profiting from it.

heathboy - you're really a hypocrite. You defend Kerry's mix up of words - "oh that wasn't what he meant" yet when a Bush does it you jump all over it.
