Great question!
I think the 'norm' (for me) has been an "observant" eye! I am an African- American, Hijabi that is heard speaking Arabic over my cell phone most of the time. The three do not really mix in the eye of the Western Conservative. I am viewed as a threat to some yet a conversation piece to others. The consensus is that either people come up to me in curiosity or do not apprach for lack of an understanding of their innate fears!

Depends on the religion. Sects, such as the Branch Davidians, or the violent Islamic ones, need to be scrutinized.

I will admit there are a few Christian denominations that I think manipulate scripture a great deal, and I can't help but feel critical towards those denominations as a whole. However, the individuals that make up those denominations should be looked at as just that...individuals.

in this day and age i would have to say a critical eye. many people nowadays are too scared to be merely inquisitive or seeking when it comes to religion.
