we dated 5yrs. then we split up, she move away saying she always wants to be friends. its been a yr and for the last three months she calls every other day. my question is why would u want to be friends with someone that u couldn't maintain a relationship with? wouldn't it be better to let sleeping dogs lie?

Don't let the sleeping dog lie - euthanize it - ha ha - but - it's like women are so emotional about these things - they can't just drop it dead like a rock like a rock to the bottom of the ocean like a guy can. It eats at them - she'll probably think about you for the rest of her life - even if you couldn't maintain a romantical relationship. Also, there is the possibilty that she's hanging on because she really wants this to work out someday - but it's obvious that she's emotionally bonded to you or she wouldn't be doing this. So, as the guy in charge of this situation - sounding like you don't want her for your life - you've got to simply totally 100% cut ties and let it drop to the bottom of the ocean so you can get on with your life. Another girl is not going to look at you like a prime dating target if she realizes that there is this "friend" you talk to all the time. Most women don't want competition - they want a guy who is all after them alone. I mean, that's the way most guys would like a girl to treat them right - like you're the only one worthy of a deep and unwavering bond that would motivate you to talk together alone all the time. So do both of you a favor and just cut the thing off! On the other hand, if you're feeling the same way she is - I mean why are you in touch with her? So, you have to decide if she is someone you want to pursue then you need to break it wide open for her - will you be together or will you part ways 100% period.

friendship is the basis for a relationship. sometimes girls get some needs met out of that and they fall in love, but over time they realize that they really only fell for the closeness they shared as friends. doesn't mean she never loved you. but if you can't be happy being friends, tell her that in a honest, respectful way and move on.

Just because you are not dating that person doesn't mean that you don't care about them on some level.

u can ask her about what she wants. but i would still suggest that u should keep a distance or not to keep any relation with that girl again.

You used to be her friend before, right? Friends don't toss friends away, they keep them!
