I have a Revlon ceramic straightener and I love it! It has a "comb" attachment that helps seperate my hair while straightening.
The salon straighteners are super expensive and you can find a good one for less, if you know what to look for. Buy a ceramic or a jade straightener, it will not damage you hair as much as a metal one.
A lot of the salon straighteners are made from the same manufacturer as those you can buy at Target! Helen of Troy makes Vidal Sasoon and Revlon!!! If you go to a salon and buy Helen of Troy it is a lot more!
It's also a good idea to apply a straightening serum to protect your hair from damage before you straighten it.

I don't use any products on my hair except a thermasilk straight & smooth to keep it from being too heat damaged.
I use a HAI ceramic straightener...costs about $100 but I've used it for over 2 years and I absolutely love it.

i get my hair done in salons. there are salons who straighten hair that will stay straight for about 6 months. if i'm broke, i do it myself. i use straightening iron although it's not good for treated hair. so i don't use one when it's not an emergency hair thing. my hair is naturally straight but there are times when i really really want it to be super straight. the secret to gorgeous hair is having clean hair. so it means you have to really shampoo your hair with effective but mild shampoos. and then massaging conditioner to damp hair and rinsing it after about 15 minutes does the trick. blow drying tends to "burn" hair so its better if you let it dry naturally then comb your hair. you may put in frizz control products like L'Oreal's to let the straightness last for a day.
