there is in fact a gadget you can get, usually you have to go to like radio-shack for one. It's called a signal booster, it should amplify the signal and give you a much clearer picture.

The problem with an amplifier is that it will amplify the noise as well. If your signal is that bad, it should be up to the cable company to come out and fix it. This indicates that your drop line is bad. Or it could be due to a weak signal, interference or noise on your line. There are many possibilities.

I would call your cable company and have them take a look at it.

Have you checked all of your connections from the wall to the tv, if they are loose you would not get a good picture, and sometimes if the pin in the middle of the plug in is bent you will not get a good picture, and one last option if you have it hooked up through something like a vcr and the vcr is on it could be causing that as well, though just having the vcr on might do that as well or some other device connected to the tv
