I had the same thing done. It is totally normal to have a long "period". It's your body getting rid of all the extra blood and mucus that was supporting the fetus. I had my period for almost a month before it totally stopped. GOOD LUCK !!

It's okay as long as the bleeding isn't very heavy. If the bleeding is very heavy or there are large clots, then she needs to go to the emergancy room! Bleeding can last up to a month after a medical abortion since it's just a chemically induced miscarriage. It's one of the reasons I was happy with getting a surgical abortion. I had some spotting for a day or two and that was it.
Your wife should definitely call her doctor with any questions or concerns she has about the abortion. Also, I think there should be an appointment for her to come back soon as well to make sure the abortion was complete and that there is no fetal tissue left in her uterus. This could lead to infection and even death, so make sure she goes! If the abortion was not complete, she might require a minor surgical procedure like a D&C to empty the contents of her uterus. Don't worry though, she won't be cut open or anything and recovery time is very short after a D&C.
You can read about chemical/medical abortion on Planned Parenthoods website www.plannedparenthood.org This should answer most of your questions about bleeding and risks.
Take care.

It is normal to have SPOTTING for a couple weeks. It is not normal to have heavy BLEEDING.
So ask her which it is. Is there just a little blood every day, or a lot?
If there's a lot, and she's in any pain, CALL HER DOCTOR.
You also asked about precautions. If she's still bleeding she should not be doing any work. Not even cooking or cleaning til her doctor okays her. Take care of her as this was partly your fault. No lifting, carrying, or reaching until she stops bleeding or sees the doc.
Please make sure the doctor puts her on birth control, or YOU can buy and use condoms. Don't make this poor woman go through such a thing again!

I recently had a abortion also. It is NOT abnormal to bleed for that long. You said that it was light? That's normal. Soaking a full size menstrual pad in less than one hour for three hours in a row
is not normal. Heavy bleeding that continues past ten days from the abortion (light bleeding or spotting is OK) may also be abnormal. If in doubt, call your doctor. She should have been given a paper that tells about the after care. It should have a number on it if you have any questions. I bled heavy for about a day. The spotted for about two weeks. It varies with every woman.

I don't really know the answer to your question. I wanted to say though that you should just ask a doctor at the clinic you took your wife to. Posting a question like that here is just going to get you a lot of hateful replies from small minded people who don't know what they're talking about. Call the clinic in the morning and they'll tell you what to do.

well, that is pretty normal. considering she would be getting her normal period plus all the stuff that has built up inside her while she was pregnant. so as long as its getting lighter then it should be fine. if not, see a dr. she may need a d & c. anyway. which is probably what you wanted to avoid by getting the pills. there is lots of info about the abortion pill online. i suggest you do some research.

Thats pretty normal...... since they did not do the regular D&C process of removing the embryo, it will be like having a miscarriage. SHe can expect to bleed anywhere from 1 week to 4 weeks. Hang in there, you said its getting lighter, so I will probably stop in a few more days. I would make sure she goes back to the OB or her doc to be sure everything was ejected and nothing is remaining.

I would say that bleeding for a couple of weeks is normal. I have had kids and that is what happens then for about 2 weeks. Make sure that she takes some iron or multivitamins because with the blood loss, she could become anemic.
I would be more worried about her emotional state. She could have a hard time with that part.

well with an abortion, as well as having a baby, she will probably bleed alittle for about a month-some may be heavier than the rest but she should be ok. she may want to consider an ultrasound b/c if the baby doesn't abort itself( come out like a blood clot during her bleeding) she may have to have a d&c -the same with miscarriages.
