I own a 5 month old siamese cat that is full of energy unlike any cat i've ever seen. so i've found out that one of the things I am able to do with this intelligent, food oriented, little kitten is to teach her tricks. Now I can't eat without her getting in my face begging for food and trying to hop up on the table (I have to throw her off of it every two seconds). Food was the way I rewarded her for doing tricks correctly, now i've opened a can of worms and she ALWAYS wants to do tricks! How can I differentiate playtime from food time?

Argh! My cat does that too! Jumps on the table whenever I'm eating, I mean. I suggest spraying her backside (not in her face) with some water, it should be enough to get her off the table, and with enough consistency she should know that table equals water!
Good luck

My cats have managed to act like I should feed them everytime I go in the kitchen and it gets to be an irritation. If I just don't feed them every time they will get the message. But boy, its really all about food with these guys. I leave dry food out for them all the time, so they are begging for the canned food. I just have to stick to it.

I own 2 cats so don't worry!! You should probably stop the tricks because the more you do it the more she'll want do it more and try do get her away from you when you're eating ;<).

treat her like a 3 yr old child.

when she jumps up when eating, grab her and say no in a stern voice, not yelling, and toss her down. then watch her for a second and if she tries to jump back up, before she can repeat the no.

but if you say no to her jumping up at the table, it has to be all the time, never allowed on the table. keep the tricks for like center of the room so there is no defined spot or piece of furniture she will relate it too.

watch the treats as they can get fat over time. also watch what you feed her.....1/4 can of cat food in morning, 1/4 cat at night and a small bowl of no more than 1 cup of dry left out for snacking. just dry alone and she'll balloon up like a fat cat. cats specially siamese are not designed to eat a wheat diet but a meat diet. that is why cans are important in food.

also get one of those running water/water fall cat dishes. it keeps the water fresh and healthy for her plus siamese love running water. this will keep her amused instead of between the shower curtains when you shower or sitting in the sink when you brush your teeth. cause trust me, those times will come once she realizes running water.

I am on my 2nd siamese mix cat, just love them. can get on your nerves at times when they don't shut up with their constent talking but other than that I wouldn't trade my Wesa.

Just glad you mentioned intelligent in your question...cause she is more intelligent than other cats out there. At times she'll even out wit you.

To help with the energy get a few milk rings or toys with a few feathers hanging off like a small bird. These will keep her entertained for hours on end. Mine plays with milk jug rings and has several colors. She picks and choses which to play with and even plays fetch with me. Brings it back every time, its past funny. Let her explore too....just be careful of letting her feel the outside if you want her as an indoor cat only. Taking them outside even for a quick visit can make them just howl for days to go back out. I learned that the hard way.

Plus give her a lot of room to run as they love to tear around to expel their extra energy. A play mate might be a good idea as well.

Just ignore her when you don't want to play. And keep consistently putting her down from the table. It's hard, but she'll figure it out.
