We are trying to help a country that has been decimated by a sadistic ruthless dictator for the last several decades. The Iraqi people are better off now than they were under Saddam. Secular violence instigated by the agents of Iran and Syria are behind the root problems in Iraq.
I really wish people would do a little research of their own before they regurgitate the biased reporting of the media. The United States and Great Britain spent ten years enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iraq after the first gulf war. We had more then enough reason to go back into Iraq to remove Saddam. There were WMD’s in Iraq, and Saddam was actively pursuing more. Every country on the U.N. Security council had the same information…from their own sources.
Now it seems to be the “in” thing to sit around and second guess everything the U.S Administration has done. Its all Bush’s fault!!! We just wanted the oil!!! We are killing the poor Iraqis!!! We are losing too many troops in a modern day Vietnam!!!
It is WAR. Unfortunately people…good, bad, guilty and innocent will die. Saddam’s regime killed far more people than will die in Iraq’s transition to a democratic, stable country. We have lost a lot of good, courageous people, military and civilian. I’m currently in the military and I spent seven months in Iraq. I will be going back sometime in 2007. I have MU opinions about the war, why we are there and when we should leave…but those are MY opinions and I am not paid to make policy decisions, or to openly critique the decisions make by others.
We have lost far too many good men and women, but at least they died for a cause greater than their own, not as a victim of senseless violence….3000+ Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines had died for their country during war. 2503 (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/05cius/data/table_05.html) people were murdered in California in 2005…..but you never hear about that on TV.

The idea is to give the people of Iraq a government which will serve them all, not one small group bullying the rest. There is also the
importance of the location of Iraq in relation to Afghanistan, Iran is right between them.
Every night I pray for the people of Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon, that the violence will end in those countries and the regular people will have a chance to lead good lives as free people.
PS: What oil is coming from Iraq? Note well who is filling in for Iraq's portion to OPEC. It's the Saudis, who don't want another Shiite country in their neighborhood. This is all about the Sunni-Shiite power struggle.

Attempting to change a region of the world where terrorism thrives. Unfortunately it looks like we'll fail because:
1) Bush is such a poor communicator, that he can't articulate the reasons we are there....so a whole bunch of people are asking the same question you are asking. In short, most people don't understand how important this war is. They don't know why it's worth fighting for.
2) Americans don't have the stomach to fight. 3000 deaths in 3 years is nothing compared to most wars. In fact, the death rate of the general US population at home is HIGHER than the death rate of our soldiers in Iraq. But still, we can't handle it.
3) We are divided. Too many Americans want us to fail because they don't like Bush. The Democrats have put all their stock in the war failing. Imagine a basketball team trying to win a game when half the team has placed huge bets against their own team.
4) To win would take a long time...and we're a society that isn't willing to sacrifice now for the future. We'd rather sacrifice the future for now.

We are in Iraq to benefit not just us, but to benefit Iraq citizens who have been under dictorship for the past 3 decades. Iraq citizens are just like us, they want to make a decent living, maybe own a few nice things like a car and house, and live life in freedom, and u can hate on us being there but i've been there and thats what they want, us leaving them is like giving up on your best friend.

Trying to sow the seeds of a governemt that will serve its people instead of the other way around, as it was. The drive-by media and the Democrats saw an avenue to regain power and used naked lies about our progress there to win an election. The losers are the Iraqi people and our grandchildren. The Iraqis will die in the short-term when the terrs take over after our hasty exit and our grandchildren will forever live in a world beset with terrorism. Thank You, Democrats!

Yes, We are robbing the Iraqi people of their money, and heritage, as well as killing them wholesale. Doing the same here too, pretty much. Ripping off the citizens, stealing the very rights they claim to protect, and generally doing the self serving interests thingie they always do.

We are waiting for our president to get over his temper tantrum. He figures if he stands his ground and holds out long enough, he will get his own way. Kind of like a kid holding its breath in a temper tantrum, only our military is paying a very high price.
