If I had to describe them, they would be to me wrong about God, and wrong about how to treat people.
They obviously don't have the Gospel right, and they are Legalistic about what they preach.
They are therefore getting their message from another source, not God, and they do not know Jesus.
I could jump into a lot of scripture right now, but I do not think that you are asking for it.
So I would call them, Legalistic, hateful, and scripturally inaccurate. They obviously do not know God, and they are commiting atrocities to the Gays, and to our soldiers and their families.

I think they are a good example of people who twist scripture in order to support their hateful actions. I think what they do is detestable and atrocious!
I am a Christian, and I am a Baptist. If their little group came to our community, our church would be there to picket THEM and to shelter the grieving families as much as possible from their hatred. True Christ followers in no way support what the Phelps are doing! Jesus associated with and showed compassion to sinners. Most of His anger and rebuke were directed to the religious authorities of His day because they were corrupt... just as the Phelps are corrupt.

That they are very poor examples of Christians. Plus, they seem to be out of their minds and indoctrinating their children into their belief system.
How can you be in favor of someone who waves a sign that says "God Hates Fags" and pickets funerals?
