Oral confessions can be done with a microphone and or a cam....so yes that could be done. BTW how do the deaf use confession if they do not speak?

The red light to online confessions is contained in a document being prepared by the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Social Communications, which broadly welcomes the Net as a powerful instrument for evangelization, the Milan daily newspaper Corriere della Sera reported Tuesday.
The sacrament of confession, by which the Roman Catholic faithful receive pardon and absolution for their sins, must always take place in "the sacramental context of a personal encounter," Archbishop John Foley, the president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, told the Italian Catholic news service SIR on Monday.
"Internet offers the church the opportunity to make the saving message of Christ accessible throughout the world," Foley told the agency. "In societies that don't allow the presence of priests, nuns, religious or lay missionaries, Internet can offer people undertaking a spiritual quest, or even just the curious, a chance to obtain information or find an inspiration that would otherwise be impossible."

Sorry, you cannot obtain absolution for your sins over a computer because it does not entail oral confession of sins. You have to confess your sins orally to a catholic clergyman. A computer with (you are assuming) a Catholic clergyman on the other end, does not constitute oral confession.
This oral confession does not necessarily have to take place in a church, it just has to be done in the presence of a clergyman. So, if someone is immobile, they don't miss out - a priest can come to them and receive absolution in their own house, or where ever they are. In other words, if one cannot get to the Church to receive Confession, the Church can bring confession to them. This fulfills the requirement of oral confession of sins.
On the surface, it sounds like a good idea but, a proper understanding of the necessity of oral confession of sins would demonstrate why "cyber-confessionals" do not and cannot exist.

Huh? You mean log on, confess, and get absolution? No no no no no!! Forgiveness comes from God alone. A big part of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is the human contact. I wish that it wasn't just priests who were allowed to administer this sacrament, but right now, that's what we're stuck with.

Not hardly. I'm going to answer you seriously & assume you are Catholic. First of all, confession is a sacrament not to be taken lightly. Secondly, your sins by be told to a priest who is God's representative on earth and you must atone for your sins. Do you really think that the sacrament would be made so insignificant & unholy as to put it on the internet? If you are Catholic, shame on you. And if you aren't, you won't understand.

lol, that would be good for us who dont like confession, hu?
But I honestly believe that its not a good idea, since I really dont think Jesus ever intended to have confession online. Hey- were Catholic- weve been doing things the same way for thousands of years.

Of course not. First you can't go to confession every day. Secondly you must do it face to face with a priest who stands in for the community. The priest is forgiving you on behave of the community, the Body of Christ. God can forgive you anytime.

You dont have to wait for one, confess your need for a Saviour now and Christ will receive you once and for all. No need for continual repentance. Christ died once and for all for the sins past present and future. He just needs you to believe in His finished work for you.

I suppose it would be a great idea. You can confess your sins anywhere. It doesn't have to be at a church.
