I am an Athiest. In the back of my mind, I have an idea of a God I could believe in, but nothing like what traditional Gods are. I see God as being nothing more than a vast consciousness, barely aware of its own existance, but that encompasses the entire universe. Its very opinionated, but its the only thing I could believe, and that it has not care at all about us or anything else.
As for Religion, I feel it has been used as a method of control since the time of Ancient Mesopotamia. It has been nothing more than a way for the powerful to legitimize their power, and maintain power of the masses. And I still view it as that today.

Well, firstly, we don't believe in any god or religion....so the question should actually be phrased "what do athiest think about people whom believe in a god or have a religion." I would have to say without a doubt that people that think there is a god are brainwashed. I've been a non-christian long enough now to be able to step back and see that those whom believe in a god are brainwashed.....plain and simple. When speaking to a christian now it's even scary because they act EXACTLY, and I mean exactly like they belong to a cult. If you are a christian, have you ever met someone that you viewed as belonging to a cult and how you felt while speaking to them?? Same thing for me.....or, have you ever met someone whom is a hardcore drug addict?? Same thing, because that's what a christian sounds like.....like they're delusional and are basing their lives on something that not only was poorly written from a historical context, but has been transcribed, on average, as many as 30 times before they're actually reading it. Christians believe because they were told since birth the stories and the scriptures and the tales from the bible. I believed in god until I was 27, and then had a revelation, which belongs to me as delving into it here would be just too long. However, I've always told people that religion or the belief therein is only a matter of geography, if you were born in Turkey you'd be a muslim hating all christians and thinking they'll all go to hell. That is one detail that I cannot ignore.....it defines religion or any belief along those lines as futile and a reason that people should just do three things in life: Always tell the truth, protect ALL living things and believe in yourself.... you'll be happier if you do, be well, Jack

Happy to fill you in. Much of what I am about to say is provable, and I will so note when appropriate.
Atheists do not believe that god, in the sense of a supernatural being that is interested in and tinkers in human affairs, exists. There is no evidence to support any theory of the existence of such an entity. The existence or non-existence of god cannot be demonstrated, either by evidence or logic. From this, it is provable that no theory of religion is of any use: no predictions can be made using such a theory about any real world event. Thus, except for warm fuzziness such as fellowship and camaraderie, religion is useless.
Many religions rely on a text, considered holy, for guidance. It is provable that any demonstrated error in such a text renders it invalid. In the case of the bible, the errors number in the hundreds, and it has scores of self-contradictions as well. The creation tale in Genesis, and the tale of the flood, are clearly fiction: we know from science that any resemblence between the stories and fact is purely coincidental (proved). Furthermore, the whole notion of salvation and resurrection is nonsense. The Qur'an and the Book of Mormon also have errors (proved).
I am happy to engage in further discussion of these points with anyone who is interested in doing so; contact via avatar.

An atheist believes, without a shadow of a doubt, that there are no divine or supernatural beings. Anyone who believes in the possibility of a divine or a supernatural being, and yet is unsure of whether they really exist, is an agnostic. All "non-believers" have differing views on different religions and their followers, with some showing them respect while others arrogantly refuse to do so. I, personally, see nothing wrong with the religious unless they are promoting something that is morally wrong, or insist on attempting to convert me.

Depends on who's asking. If it's a christian on their high horse trying to convert the world, saying that christianity is the only real religion and that all others are false, then I believe god and the bible is the best seller in the science-fiction category. But if it's a Christian, Muslim, or any other who respects other people's religion, then I believe that they should get that same respect, too.

I THINK that some people are so desperate for answers to the big scary unanswered questions in life that it makes them feel better to believe in something bigger than they are.
I THINK that other people have just been brainwashed their whole lives and have never tried thinking LOGICALLY for themselves.
I THINK that still others understand how much POWER they can have over people when they profess to know the answers to the aforementioned questions and use such power to control others and make MONEY (That is worst case scenario and does NOT apply to all!)
I THINK that it makes A LOT more sense to think that someone who said they had visions and heard voices talking to them was probably suffering from schizophrenia rather than communicating with some sort of GOD... I mean if one person was actually talking to GOD then why not ALL of them???
I THINK that, while it is nice to think that we never have to really take responsibility for our actions and that DADDY will eventually come and save us, it is unrealistic and furthermore illogical.
I THINK that more people have died in the name of GOD than for nearly any other reason in history...
I THINK it is time to stop believing in fairy tales and realize that all we have is now and that if we do not make the best of it NOTHING else will matter, no matter WHAT you believe.

distinctive than for those that for the duration of straightforward terms ridicule, those persons at right here to talk do it for the comparable reason you asked this question, to open human beings's eyes. once I debate, i do no longer likely think of of of it as an option to redesign an atheist, yet to assist somebody on the fence understand my section extra effective valuable, to with any success help them see the terrific judgment interior the back of what i think of and to verify that no longer each and each theist is seen as stupid. Edit: Tao, with the help of skill of what authority are you able to declare what's effective and incorrect? What ethical shape are you employing? what's the source of your morality? ought to weapons be banned because of reality some human beings use them for evil? for sure no longer, the all and sundry is inflicting the evil no longer the gun. in distinctive words, that's no longer Christianity that's the priority that's the persons who lack suggestion of what Christ taught that are the priority. backside-line, all and sundry is evil no longer the education. additionally, i ought to assume your accusations contain info that God isn't actual and you will thoroughly say that Christianity must be handed over. Questioner, the above is what i'm conversing approximately. His answer is an attempt to persuade those that Christianity is evil. I in straightforward terms won't tolerate it, it relatively is illogical.

The only thing that all atheists have in common is the disbelief in god(s). Other than that, they can and do have all sorts of different beliefs and views on all sorts of things, including religion.
