You are a wise cookie! God is loving; man is fear full of that which it does not understand. God is unconditional love. This is the lesson of our life to be that which we truely are, God. By reuniting within we re-member the wholeness of The ONE and we all come together we are never really seperate unless we turn away form accepting all that is. Freewill of choice and the many paths to enlightenment is what makes this such a great illusion.

That fear comes from an ancient belief that acts of nature were acts of an angry God. That archaic belief was challenged by Jesus (if he actually said any of what was written about him) but still persists due to ignorance and an unwillingness of most religious fanatics to accept the fact that if there is a God he really does not have a problem with anything we do...there is everlasting life after all so how could you really hurt anyone. This is also a justification for religious war.

Would you run over some one knowing you'd get the death penalty? Would you steal from some one knowing that you would lose your hand in the process? Most likely not.
Christians don't fear God. Then fear his wrath.
Best wishes.

We need to fear God in the same way one fears fire.
Fire is a wonderful thing, it brings warmth, light, it cooks our food; but if you get careless with it you get burned.
I like the words of the song:
T'was grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fear relieved..."

Fearing God is to have wisdom of the power of God. Have you ever been fearful of the consequences of your actions? If not then you are not long for this Earth or very wise. You would not enter a Biker Bar and yell out "Anyone on a Harley Sucks!" now would you. That is the beginning of wisdom.

I think, though, that the term refers to the same kind of 'fear' you have for a parent - when you're a child and you know you've done something wrong, you, also, know that Mom or Dad are going to be waiting for you when you get home.
However, I do agree that many religions emphasize, and use, fear far too much as a means of manipulating the believers.

God fearing means subsurvient to god. Just as sad. However fearing people who claim to "fear god" is entirely reasonable, advisable in fact.

when you say "fear" (towards God), it's not really the fear that most of us feel towards our superiors or someone who has authority.. It's fear towards our actions.
The thing is this, 'fear' towards God must not be taken literally. You must sink in to what is meant for the word 'fear' and the reason why it is broguht about. Do not just rely on the surface, try understanding the word and it's subject.(it's depth)

You don't understand. Fear of God brings peace in your heart. If the only thing you fear (God) is the one thing that you know will -NEVER- hurt you, than you don't need to be worried about anything else. Fearing God, clouds out all other fears, and since the fear of God really doesn't matter, because He loves you, you've got nothing to worry about, and a whole lot to gain! God won't hurt you, so what's there to fear? You fear Him to keep yourself from fearing everything else, it brings peace! Read the Bible, it's very specific on fearing God. Read Job especially.
