I had a Husky for 15 yrs she died in May @ 16 from spleen & liver cancer!! She was a Great watch dog for both children, adults! I could leave my nephews (12, 8, 4, 1 yr) in the front yard & my husky Goldie would watch then & NOT let them out of the yead w/ no gate! If any expecally the 4 & 1 yr old got near the gate area she would get between then & start barking. She saved all my nephews from getting hurt @ least twice during her life time. They could pull her tail , use her for balance when learning to walk, play w/ everyone, guard everyone. She even put her self in front of my mom & I when a pack of strays came into our yard to protect. At night if someone knocked @ the door she had to be between us & the door. She could be playing 1 second & defending us the next!! She might have been 16 but she acted like a pupppy! Everyone she met she licked & wanted to play w/ unless u tried to sneak up on my mom or I then she would pretect us by getting between us & the threat!! She was my daughter & best friend!! There will NEVER be another dog like her!! When all my nephews were babies she would sleep next to then or under the crib & SHE would tell U when they were awake before they made a sound!! My husband was diagnoised w/ sleep apena (he stopps breathing in his sleep) before he was diagnoised Goldie would either sleep in bed w/ us or on the floor she would b asleep & wake up at the drop of a hat when my husband stopped breathing she would nugde him till he woke up & if he didn't wake up she would jump in him to wake him up. I also have a problem sleeping I turn on my stomach & put my face in my pillow. When Goldie saw this is would put her face next to mine & nudge me or lick my face (where ever she could reach) or my ears till I woke up & rolled to my side she even did this when I put my head under my pillow!! She was such a good Dog. Till she died she always acted like a puppy!! I've had german shephards, collies, labs, goldens & Goldie was the best of them all! Collies & labs are my 2nd favorite breeds!! If I had to choose between a husky & another breed I would choose a HUSKY everytime!! MY Husky was the best & most playful, loving, funny, sharming, loyal, protective dog I ever had!! I didn't even need a leach to walk her she walked right by my side!! We have a fence with No gates but she NEVER left the yard except when she saw us coming or thought we were in danger!!

I have a husky mix, and he is the friendliest dog you'd ever meet! He loves all people. I've encountered other very friendly huskies, too, so I imagine it's a trait of the breed. But it also depends on how they are raised. A spoiled dog or an abused or neglected dog won't be as friendly.

All the Huskies I have seen are very friendly and seem non-aggressive, but it does depend a lot on the environment they are raised in, so if you raise it properly, then it will be a good dog. One of the sayings I use is there's no such thing as bad dogs or kids, just bad owners or parents.

Huskies are not pets. They do not make good pets. The were bred to work and run for hours and hours. They do not guard anything. I do not think they have any natural aggressiveness in them. If you want to own one, you would need a very secure property as they can run for hours on end when they get the chance to get out - they DO get out once every so often - you will be going up and down your neighborhood searching for it, and they cannot find their way home. Huskies loose lots and lots of hair.
My in-laws have huskies.........

siberian huskies are FABULOUS with kids and people. it comes from the culture they were bred in. they were selectively bred to be friendly and easy to work with. and with nomadic villages, there wasn't much need for guardian dogs, and so huskies are generally so accepting of people and strangers, they will let burglars get away with the TV, jewelry, cash, anything, as long as they get some kisses!
with this said, any dog can become dangerous around young children who may not know how to treat dogs. or smaller children who can become injured while playing with a happy bouncy puppy. so never leave a new dog unsupervised with young or small children. also, the best dog in the world can become uncontrollable if not trained and socialized properly. but a socialized, trained, happy husky is one of the greatest things in the world!

My personal experience with this breed has been less than positive. Every husky I've ever met has been psycho and more than half of them have been aggressive and bitten children (usually on the face). I would never recommend them to a family with kids... obviously, your mileage may vary!

They are probably as good as any other large dog. If raised with children I would assume they would be very good. Other people it would depend on how you associate it with people.
I have Border Collies they in turn are not real good with kids, small yards and no job. They herd everything including kids.

Our husky is awesome with children. He is a big loveable baby himself and a complete sweetheart, super gentle around children and super cuddly.

From what I have read, they aren't great family pets. Your local library should have one or more good dog encyclopedias, or books about breed descriptions. Please read it and choose a dog by how it will suit you and your family - activity level, one person dog or family, trainability. Pets should not be disposable, and if you are going to have a dog for 10-20 years, you want it to be the right one. You will find some surprises, for example, great danes do not need a lot of exercise.
