O.K. what you need is a stage 1 powercenter, which is made by monster , there are 4 types....

1 has two outlets, which is good if it is a stand alone t.v. ie bedroom t.v.at it costs about 60.00 .......

2 has four outlets on it which is good for a small theater system ie surroundsound, tv, cable and a dvd player.... costs around 80.00

3 has eight outlets on it which is good if you have lots of components..... costs around 120.00

4 has 8 outlets on it and disconnects the outlets when the is a power surge and the reconnects them whenhe surge is over now the price on this one is 300.00 but if you have serious equipment this is the way to go....

the first 3 all have cable connections on them and what they do for the power is filter out dirty power from old wiring in the house ... which causes more wear and tear on your t.v.......... the last one also does this....

What you need to look for are home theater surge protectors or line conditioners rather than just normal surge protectors that you would hook up to your computer or other electronics.

Home theater surge protectors provide high surge protection (high joule rating) and other features that possibly will improve your signal.

Monster and APC are the two popular brands that come to mind. They start at $30 and go up into the $1000+. Buy something that makes sense to what you have. For example, if you have a $1000 home theater, then don't spend more than $100 for a surge protector. If you have a $10,000 home theater, then you would want to spend $300-$500 on a good line conditioner.

I would recommend at least a 2500 joule rating. I think a line conditioner would be an overkill for your setup. A nice surge protector for about $50-$100 should suffice.

If you had a cheap tube TV, then I would just say get a $20 surge protector and you are done.

Surge protectors are rated by a term jewels, the higher the rating the better the protector. As far as one for you TV, are you looking to protect it from AC surges, Video signal or both.

I have yet to find one that indicated what amount of surge/jewels rating for TV signals (N connectors). However I having just purchased a APC PR11VT3, rated at 3500 surge.

Buy the highest rated unit you can afford. Most of the units provide a warranty for the equipment being powered thru the unit.

I would choose with one with a warranty. There are many good brands to choose from.

I don't know the brand but I can tell you this true story. My brother placed surge protectors on all of his electronic gear consisting of computers, stereo equipment, tvs and such. His power lines for electricity had a surge and knocked out his power supplies in his computer. His TV survived because he used a different surge protector than the other ones in his home. The brand is unknown but he bought it at Costco. My memory says to get the fastest clamping force available but those protectors cost money. I believe the costco ones are around 20 bucks. so they are good and cheap. hope this helps.
