I have looked and looked for the answer to this question but I can't find it.
How much reduction in greenhouse gases would there be if you turn down your thermostat in the winter by 5 degrees Fahrenheit?
I found this site that said 2% but it's too little and it just said if I turned down the thermostat, not specifying how much. I also found a lot of turning down the thermostat 2 degrees, which is not what I want.

Actually, no matter what we do, we can't stop the emissions of greenhouse gasses. Even if we could, it's just so small and unimportant. Man makes sonly 3.5% of all the green house gasses. Drive us all back to the stone age and it still wouldn't make a difference. Want to do something more? Prevent all the seas and oceans from evaporating. Gaseous H2O is the most predomenant greenhouse gas of all.

The source there says that a 1 F degree reduction translates into a 5% decrease in fuel consumption. So the total reduction would be about 22 % (Seems a bit high though).

No reduction. Burning fuels on the surface is not the cause of greenhouse gasses. CO2 is not elevated on the surface because of its uptake by photosynthesis of plants. The only logical cause of the "greenhouse effect" is burning fuels above 30,000 feet. The culprit- jet engines! They burn 2-4 tons of kerosene per engine per hour. There are thousands of hours of jet engines burning fuel each day.

Try the bigger picture -- factory emissions, lawn mowers, billions of cars using the road every day, eighteen wheelers.
