I imagine if Joan Miro were a photographer the images would look similar to this in terms of the color and composition. However, in terms of contemporary photographers, it seems like this work is somewhat in the spirit of Carrie Mae Weems. She did a really elegant and poignant series on buildings that were used in the slave trade, one building in particular that stands out in my mind can be seen in this link and is on the far right http://www.ppowgallery.com/artists/CarrieMaeWeems/shape.html It looks almost like a navel but still not quite obvious so as to keep the viewer interested.
In terms of how you can improve this photo, well a continuation on this series which you seem to have started would be a great start. However, I am not so sure this series is about Katrina, it could be about any number of topics. I dont think this image lacks synergy, though if the lighting were perhaps a bit moodier it would give it that extra pop. As the writer Truman Capote once said, the difference between good and great is miniscule but savage, indeed this photo is good, but to give it that savage edge and make it great perhaps one small element is missing and perhaps it is lighting.

It's exquisite and yet uninteresting. There is symmetry but no synergy, if you know what I mean. It's not the composition. It's what the eye must do with the components of the composition in order to perceive the delicate joy of this photograph. You must be very intelligent, because you are assuming that most people can do the analytical thought required to appreciate what your eye saw here. I love this photograph.

Well,I don't think there is any reason for you to try and change your photo. It looks so rustic...it's almost like I am waiting for a Spanish princess to walk out through the opening. I can't say I feel anxious or disappointed ....but I don't feel overcome with joy. There are certainly great textures and colors...great photo!

It makes me feel thoughtful. Not joy or sadness just a quiet feeling. No improvements necessary. By the way......very nice pic.

It's a good pic just as it is. You could try putting in a little graffiti, but it's probably best left alone.

I like it. The torture of mankind. Thanks and keep it the way it is. Something overworked is worse than under worked.
