Just to clarify a little - Mormons don't teach that every single Mormon WILL without a doubt become a god....we have the potential, but not every Mormon will even be in the Celestial Kingdom.
I don't know of any other religions who even teach that God the Father was once a man...

I don't know....but for the Mormons who claim that's "not what they believe" - they had better read a bit of their own sacred literature:

God's progression from man to God is clearly stated throughout Mormon literature. Joseph Smith wrote:

God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! . . . I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see. . . . He was once a man like us; yea that God himself, the Father dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did. . . .

Brigham Young, the second president taught "[T]hat God the Father was once a man on another planet who 'passed the ordeal we are now passing through. . .'" The Doctrine and Covenants states, "God is a glorified and perfected man, a personage of flesh and bones. Inside his tangible body is an eternal spirit." (130:22)

Jesus is believed to have been a mortal man who attained godhood and showed that all men can do the same. The goal of every Mormon man is to achieve exaltation to godhood. Bruce McConkie states, "That exaltation which the saints of all ages have so devoutly sought is godhood itself." Joseph Smith exhorted all Mormon men to strive for this goal.

"Here then, is eternal life--to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all gods have done before you. . . ."

The Mormon Church teaches that if a couple marries according to Mormon ceremony, and each lives an obedient life, they may attain godhood at the resurrection. The Doctrine and Covenants teaches,

[Y]e shall come forth in the first resurrection; . . . and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths . . . (and you) shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to (their) exaltation." (132)

The passage concludes, "Then they shall be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting because they continue. . . . Then they shall be gods because they have all power, and the angels are subject to them." (132:20)

you quite might want to carry out slightly quite analyze particularly of depending upon former contributors who were kicked out and Protestant ministers who really make their living by promoting Mormon hate literature. There are sufficient issues that someone like you may make relaxing of the Mormons for with out blending lies and "previous different halves's tails" in with it. convinced, curiously they have replaced their theology interior the previous 2 a lengthy time period or so. convinced, their theology taught that you will be able to grow to be a god with your own planet and "spirit toddlers". curiously after Mitt Romney became requested this, a reporter requested a church reputable and the reputable denied it (convinced, its all interior the interview). each and every member with a temple advise knows that they have got Baptisms for the lifeless, they don't deny that. The area about Adam is deeper than you may curiously understand, or you does no longer have reported it like that. it isn't what you're implying. convinced, they trust that you're married in heaven, and that the only the christians call "god the daddy" is married. All that having been reported, After years of deep study into that faith and others. so a thoughts because the Christian church homes bypass.... it extremely is the nearest one which i visit work out that makes the most experience. If I ever went decrease back to worshiping the Christian god, i'd probable lean in the route of being some branch of Mormon. EDIT: i became very shocked that someone really printed that Mormons do not trust that they are going to grow to be gods with their own planets! frequently they only ignore about that one. yet as I reported, an offical of the church DID deny this at the same time as interviewed, so perchance it has replaced. the human beings who make that denial had extra perfect examine with their Bishop to work out if their "Temple Recomment" is in jeopordy even with the truth that. i understand it extremely is became the doctrine of the Mormon Church interior the Nineties (the Utah branch besides), and most of the others initially.

Im Mormon and yes we do teach that. Chase is only 16 so lay off of him. It doesn't mean we WILL become GODS. We strive to live with Heavenly Father and become like Him. To answer your question though, I'm not sure of any other religions who believe the same. We haven't changed that teaching either like someone else mentioned.

And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Jack, most members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe the Bible, which commands us to "be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect." Thus, we believe that, through the atonement of Christ, we can indeed be perfected -- to be like God.

We also believe Jesus, who taught that those who believe in Him can become one with Christ and God.

Further, we believe the teaching of Paul, who assures us that we are children of God, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.

Thus, we can become gods in several meanings of the word -- however, we usually express that concept by using a lower-case "g", to make it clear we do not expect to become objects of worship.

H. W. Armstrong also taught this. He was the one who had the magazine The Plain Truth which was of course a plain lie.
For Mormons who say their church does not teach this, when did they stop teaching this. Mormons need to read their own doctrine.

Your question is limited in that it does not take into account the factor of time. A child of God will grow up to resemble his or her parents. What does that mean to you? Look around and see how children grow up to engage in similar activities their parents engage in. There is only one supreme God, our Heavenly Father, who we pray to. It will take most of us at least 1,000 years to even start to comprehend what God does. Have a happy day.

The answer is ambiguous. For all Christians are called to be "with" Jesus or part of the body of Christ, as the church, when their own being is considered a temple. Thus, the answer is ambiguous. We seek to be "with" God. What is the difference? Surely we cannot comprehend it.
