Normally you can tell by body language.
Of late i have noticed a strange difference in a persons voice when they were talking to me....
It took me a week.. but finally i came to ask... If there was a problem.... This turned out be me a mis understanding..
They thought i was upset at them because i wasn't cheery and happy one day.. and they thought i was sad and upset because of them.

So communication is pretty much the best way to find out.
You could sometimes read the signs wrong.

Depends on how angry the individual is sometimes it is very easy to tell others they tense up and usually will become very quiet. the best thing is to try a compliment say something nice about the person or smile a bit see if they respond.
In some cases, an angry girlfriend/wife, distance is often recommended for a few moments at least and look out for any flying objects.

I think you can usually tell by watching their body language and by listening to their word choice. Sometimes the tone helps. I think the best thing is to sometime just ask. Sometimes people are over tired, not feeling well, or having a very bad day and it has nothing to do with you.

It is all in the body language. If they are that good in hiding it, it will eventually come out in a derogatory remark, something sarcastic when you say something and they chime in, or just being rude to you. You will eventually get the message loud and clear.

I figure it's not my job to read people's minds. I don't "play the game", so rarely do people play the game with me. It just doesn't work. If someone is angry with me, they'd better say so. I'm just not going to run around trying to figure out how other people feel. I have enough problems trying to figure out how I feel.
