I've had a lot of difficulty choosing my major, but I finally came to a decision. I'm a Psych major, a bio minor, and bioethics minor. I've thought about just about everything. So how did I make my decision?
1. First, sit back and look at the classes you are taking. What are you doing good in? What classes do you enjoy going to? Those are some possible choices.
2. Now think about 10 years in the future. Take some deep breaths, close your eyes, and don't think about things like money, or what your parents would want you to do. What can you see yourself doing? Start out small. Are you working outdoors? Are you in an office? Are there lots of people around, or are you alone? Etc.
3. Take some evaluating tests. One I like is at http://www.careercruising.com/default.asp. YOu need a password. My school had one. I sent you that in an email okay? Give it a try. There are also plenty of books out there. Do some research!
4. Look at your hobbies. What do you do in your free time. Can you turn that into a major, or a career?
5. If you honestly have no clue AT ALL, just relax and take some time to take some random classes you never thought you would. Take an art class, a theater class, a class on victorian literature, a computer class, an anthropology class, anything! Try some new things. Even if you are a Sophomore and you're feeling the pressure to declare, try to relax and try new things. You can always stay longer at school (even with money problems, trust me I've seen people do it and be just fine) or declare a major, and change it later.
6. FOLLOW YOUR HEART!

Hope I could help. Best of luck to you. :)

Nobody can make that decision for you. But following are some questions to think about:
1) Do you want a college major that leads directly to a job? If yes, then you should consider majors like nursing, pharmacy, teaching, accounting.

2) What are you good at? Remember you'll have to pass the classes you'll take for your major. If you're lousy at math, you probably shouldn't go into science related fields.

3) What classes have you enjoyed in your previous education? It's very important to enjoy the classes in your major. If you haven't enjoyed classes that involve a lot of reading, like English or the social sciences, you probably shouldn't major in those fields.

It's not necessarilly what is proper. It should be something you want to do that will support your income needs. You need to find a challenging area that will keep you interested for a long time. What things do you enjoy doing the most, for the longest period of time, without getting bored. And then research the different jobs surrounding your interests. Quite a few people change their major a few times before settling down to just one or two majors.

First of all, start off by going to your local college career services. You should take the Myers-Briggs test. It is a personality type of test, and when you get the results it should tell you what jobs and majors you'd be good at. Also, you should talk to a career counselor. They will also assist you in picking out your classes. Try to think of what type of classes you like to take....for instance, I hate math classes, so I knew that I wouldn't want to became an accountant or a mathematician ....but I did like English and writing. So, that's why I majored in Journalism. I also liked studying about religion, and politics. So, think about what classes you like and excel in. Good luck.
