i need to scan a picture at 300dpi? what does this mean and how do i do it? Or how can I make a picture that is already on my computer files with 800 pixels become 900-1200 pixels?

You can not increase the pixel size of a photo, that is already on your computer, without reducing the quality of it.
But if you scan at a higher resolution or increase the dots per inch (dpi) then the picture quality will be increased. The higher the dpi the better the pic quality.
Place a photo in the scanner and when the on screen printer program box opens just look for a place that indicates dpi. Normal dpi is 200 and 300 dpi is quite large. That is the best i can do sense you dont say what kind of printer you have.

Set the scan resolution to your desire dpi. Scan it. Done. Mean while, remaking the picture on your computer files with an image editing software will solve this problem.
