I am SOOO out of shape... nearing probably 180 lbs. I was a happy 140 2 years ago when I fell ill and subsequently quit smoking. I haven't been motivated to work out since. Any suggestions? I have tried Turbo Jam and got bored with it. I am using my Bally's membership sometimes to walk 3 miles on the treadmill, also boring. I am getting married next summer need to lose 40 lbs! Help me get started!

Really, I dont recommend what other people have just recommended.

You have the basic principles of weight lose..

Caloric intake

As long as you burn more calories than you take in you will lose weight.

That doesnt mean crash dieting where you only eat 1200 calories a day. You should consume the right amount of calories you need based on your gender, height, and age range.

You will also need a good amount of resistance training and cardio to effectively lose unwanted fat.

As always seek professional assistance with any exercise program to achieve best results.

You can absolutely lose weight by walking, but if you're really out of shape, start with a shorter distance. Then gradually increase the distance once walking a mile (for instance) becomes too easy. Make sure you walk briskly -- you should be breathing harder than usual but still able to have a conversation.
Good luck! You can do it!
Also, if you have the money, you can buy a heart rate monitor so you stay in your target heart rate zone (this way you know for sure that your heart is beating not too slow and not too fast)

Yes you'll lose weight walking briskly. Start by walking 20 to 30 minutes to start off. Gradually get up to an hour. Eat healthy foods. Drop the Mc D's and soft drinks. Easy on the snack cakes too. Pick an exercise (Walking is good) until you feel like trying something else. Or not. Just don't over do it like a lot of beginners do. If you start too hard you'll quit. Ease into it
Good Luck

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

In a good eating plan it works two things, Cardio and weight. Here are some facts
1. if you stop drinking cokes 15 pounds'
2. 3 miles 4 times a week 15 pounds.
3. chips and between meal junk 20-30

in a year, I did and I didn't eat Subway :-). You can try an appetite suppresant to stop eating between but I was never hungry. So I kinda stopped eating. I lost a ton of weight. but it is easy if before the food passes under your nose you say...do I need this...
