My doctor recommended every 2 weeks, but if I sleep with my contacts on, should I replace them more frequently? Or if I don't sleep with my contacts on, can I wear them for a longer time than 2 weeks?
Thanks!

Sorry forgot to say that my contacts are biweekly ones and they are Acuvue Oasys (which allow overnight wear)

If you have the Bi-weekly kind (like I have) I change them every 2 weeks. I do not sleep in them. My kind are not to be slept in. My son has the monthly kind. He can sleep in his and leave them in for up to 1 month. If you do not do what your doctor tells you too you are taking a chance. When my son was in high school he wore the bi weekly kind all the time and did not take care of them correctly. He ended up with an ulcer (sore) in the middle of his cornea. He has a scar there. He was in a lot of pain and had to have eye drops in his eyes every 2 hours around the clock ( like getting up with a new born baby in the middle of the night) for 2 weeks straight. The doctor said that he was lucky that he didn't loose his sight from it. He was also very lucky to be able to wear contacts again. He was unable to wear contacts again for 6 months. If you don't take care of them you are prone to infections. Just do what your doctor says and you should be fine!!!

Good Luck

I replace them when they tear, or if they just seem too worn. Sometimes it's a month or two... sometimes longer. I take them out each night and wear for every waking moment of the day. The contacts are "2 week, extended wear" lenses... but my Dr. said that they can be worn till they wear out or tear.... I've not had a problem doing this... and my Rx hasn't changed in over 5 years with this method - so it hasn't adversely affected my vision any.

Sleeping with contacts in isn't a great thing to do. You increase the chance of damaging your eyes (ie: scratched corneas) .... even if the contacts state they can be worn sleeping.

I take them out at night every day and I've been using the same contacts for 4 weeks. They work just like they did in the beginning. Don't leave them in your eyes too long..protein build up...or somethign like that, and your eyes will become yellowish.

Oh! It also depends on what *kind* of contacts you have. I have the kind you're supposed to change every two weeks.

well i occasionally sleep in mine and i usually change mine every month. so i dont really understand why your doctor said 2 weeks. but you shouldnt have them longer than a month. and no you wont have to change them more frequently if you wear them when you sleep just make sure you let them soak in the solution for 4 hours sometime during the day.

They recommended 2 weeks...but as long as you take care of them and dont sleep with them in, you should be able to go longer. I usually wait to change mine til they start really bothering my eyes. which is about 2-3 months.

Different types of contacts are meant to be changed at different time intervals. So, when other people change theirs has nothing to do with when you should change yours! Read the instructions on the box. Follow your doctors instructions. Do NOT sleep in them. You are setting yourself up for corneal damage...definetly not worth it.
