New York City is as gentrified as they come these days, but if you want to get assaulted or held at gunpoint probably hang around any large park in the middle of the night (aside from gramercy), or ride the subway through brooklyn really late at night. That or start yelling at people as they come out of bars at last call, or stare at people in alphabet city. Of course this would have to be at night too. if this question was asked so you could avoid these areas, it isn't like you are a walking target if you enter any single neighborhood. You probably have to be very stupid or very unlucky to get held at gunpoint or assaulted.

Oooohh...that's tough nowadays, since the city has really cleaned up it's act in the past 15 years. But if you're really lookin' to get held up, tell me where you're gonna be and when and well see what happens.
