theologians and writers say that whatever was written about Abraham was penned only about 6 to 700 years after his life ended. (thats if such a person known as abraham ever existed). now as these writers suggest, how can any thinking person, religious or not take this story of abraham as a literal and historical truth when the gap between his death and the actual writings about his life story creates such a huge unbridgeable gap?

The more absurd things are the more likely they are to believe it. It shows them just how powerful their imaginary friend is.

That doesn't mean that "writing" didn't exist back then, or that there was no record of the stories surrounding people at all. Many history tales have been passed down by word-of-mouth, in an oral tradition, which can be shown to be just as effective as writing something down!

Records were kept on skins, or in clay, or on walking-staffs (carvings/decorations signified different stories). Stories were passed down WORD FOR WORD unbroken in an oral tradition. The gap is not therefore "unbridgeable", unless you wish to unscientifically dismiss the record-keeping practices of ancient cultures as invalid.

The average U,S. American person has a true lack of understanding traditional ways of passing important events from generation to generation, other than pretty pictures!!!, songs were the most widely used than other would engrave on family crests and fork lore there were many ways of passing information down - even before television!!
You think maybe the Jews may have used some of the old ways??

why didnt you mention the Jews?

well we get our information about Abraham from the Quran which was revealed unto Muhammad (pbuh).

Jews and Christians get the information from the book of Genesis which is the Torah that was revealed unto Moses (pbuh)
