You could make one tray with veggies, fruit and cheese. That way you don't have to have too big a variety of either fruit or veggies.
Buy the package of cheese chunks and add celery, carrots, apple, pineapple and grapes. That would really make a pretty tray.

Fruit tray. I am always so happy to see a fruit tray because it is refreshing and light.

Plus, I can eat fruit. I am diabetic.

A vegi tray will be less expensive, but please consider the guest. Vegi trays are served at every party. So go with a good fruit tray and a variety of dips or coordinating cheeses.

A vegetable tray with various dips is easy to prepare, cheap in cost, and stays fresh longer.

Vegetable tray, definitely. People are pretty willing to eat anything as long as it can be dipped in ranch dressing. Meanwhile, people are MUCH pickier when it comes to fruit.

winter time - easier to go with Vegetable tray - fruits are better in the summer when it's warmer (keeps you cooler).

you can do a yummy veggie fondue too - great dip choices with veggies.
