I just got my 15 week old Yorkie 1 week ago...have been having a difficult time potty training him. He's been having runny stools, with occasional blood--its liquidy. He tries to push more out and droplets of blood come out after he initially goes potty. For 1 day, he barely ate or drank. The next morning and rest of the day he ate like he normally has been. Also, he's been dragging his butt on the floor, like maybe he has worms. The papers I have on him say that about a month ago he got shots/medicine for worms. I have not changed his diet at all and as far as I know he has not eaten anything hes not supposed to. Is this something the vet should check out? I though maybe at first he had runny poop from being nervous coming to a new home...but the blood worries me. Have not had a puppy before, so I dont know what to expect/what is normal or what will pass...any suggestions??

the most common reason for blood drops at the end of a bowel movement is indeed being wormy. We used to worm puppies very 3 weeks until they tested clear of worms. If he was de-wormed a month ago, he likely needs it agian..as all worms can't be controlled in just one de-worming, because of their (the worms) growth patterns..
Now, we use Revolution for pregnant moms, and finally are getting puppies without worms, but Revolution is very new, so not all vets have it yet. It would be worth it to call around and see which vet in your area carries Revolution.. It is just a spot-on application, and gets rid of nearly all varieties of parasites..as a new product, vets are encouraged to give the first treatment for free..

It can be a slew of problems. It sounds like she has more then one disease afflicting her. Bloody stools usually point to bad diet, parasites, abscess in the bum area, or parvo. Yes, if your puppy has parasites, your older yorkie could have contracted it as well. The chances of an older dog getting sick is slimmer, but still possible. If your younger puppy is barely breathing, you might be able to call it an emergency, and it shouldn't wait till tomorrow. You should try taking the pup to an emergency clinic now rather then wait till morning.

Yes, please take the dog to the vet quickly. Blood in the stool is not a good.

Puppies systems do not mature enough to even start house training until they are 6 months old. Asking him to understand house training is like asking a 2 month old baby to drive to the grocery store and do the shopping.

Please please take the time to go on line and read about raising a puppy. There are so many free resources on line and you have a friend who will love you and be your constant companion for the rest of his life but you must take good care of him.

Blood is bad. You need to go to the vet asap. Some diarrhea that goes away after a day or two is ok, but dark stool (from blood) or blood in the urine is bad. It sounds like he ruptured something or his kidneys might be having problems. The fact that it is coming out both in his urine and feces is what worries me the most. Blood in the urine could just be a bladder infection (or something similar) but from both ends is never good.
Please get him to the vet as soon as you can for blood work. If he ruptured something, he could get septicema which is pretty deadly.

I don't think the bloody stool is normal. Runny is ok for puppies but not bloody. I'd call the vet first, see if they have a remedy, or you might have to make an appointment. I would get it checked real soon, for your babies sake!!

READ THIS !!!! I have 2 yorkies. You need to go to the vet ASAP. Because yorkies are so small, they cannot afford to have vomiting or diarrhea for long. Their systems crash quickly! It sounds like coccidia is a likely culprit -it's a parasite puppies get from their mom or littermates. Antibiotics are the only way to clear it up and you need to be diligent about cleaning up after the messes because he can keep reinfecting himself. See your vet right away!

Take him to the vet. They may want to check a stool sample. Dragging his butt is a sign that his anal glands might need to be expressed. It's possible they are impacted, maybe even infected.

if it was my dog i wouldn't trust a sheet of paper. sounds like worms or parvo? it will not hurt to take him to the vet and get him wormed again and another puppy shot. then you no for sure he's had what he needs to keep him healthy...do it soon.parvo is a deadly disease and will kill him....and its very pain full for him and you. good luck...
