Well, mom's not very encouraging & supportive & I feel for the girl. But that shouldn't stop her from pursuing her goals. Some people are selfish & don't know how to give of themselves; if you are in this girl's life, give her the support & encouragement lacking at home. If you're able, step in, take an interest & be a mentor. She'll hold you dear in her heart for that.

Well, I was in spelling bees once and I was so glad that everybody supported everything that I did. Now I have never met this mom or this daughter...and i don't know their family relationship or situation. But if I were the mom, I would love to go because hey, at least the girl is doing something intellectual, and not hanging out with smokers/addicts.
And pre-teen/teenage girls need ALL the support they can get. With all the peer pressure and stress and hormones raging, girls especially can feel so put down and sometimes like everybody is letting them down. Moms, enjoy the time you have with your kids...you'll miss that time later on.

I'd say that is pretty selfish and sad. Poor girl.....her mother should be proud that she is in a spelling bee and not doing some other things that 12 year olds sometimes start doing. If she's not careful and doesn't start paying more attention to her daughter then her daughter may begin to rebel and do some things that her mother won't be proud of.

Oh my that is horrible. That mom is horrible. She should celebrate her daughters accomplishments. I mean not just anybody gets into a spelling bee. She should be happy that her daughter tries to do good in school because not many kids would care if there parents did not care. I am sorry but what a b****.

I feel horrible for saying this but, but my mom never went to my band concerts, but always went to my younger cousins choir concerts. At first i was really upset, but adults just like kids enjoy some things and dislike others. I think saying they are boring is a bit mean but even if she doesn't enjoy the Bee doesn't mean she isn't happy that the daughter is in it.

no doubt that this child will be affected by actions like this from a parent in the future. She will grow up to think she isnt important or doing good in school isnt important, and she will start to not try and eventually even give up and drop out of school and not think anything of it because probably her mom wont give a f u c k! Then we wonder why drug junkies and welfare dependent people are the way they are. The answer is how they became that way, mostly is because of parents like these. I hope when she gets old, her daughter throws her *** in an convalecent home and never visits her and lets her just rot there alone and lonely

I would be outraged! That's no way to teach your daughter. Trust me I know my parents blow me off all the time. Hell a spelling bee is a big deal (SHE MADE IT TO A SPELLING BEE.)
Whoever said it needs to get off the damn computer and apologize, that's tottaly unacaptable behavior. Hopefully she hasn't said it yet so no feelings were hurt.
THIS IS A 12 YEAR OLD!
Ohmigod, Im 16 and I feel so much better about MY parenting skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would never tell one of my sibblings that, ever

I would say, "Wow, she should get no part of the prize money when the daughter goes on to win the national spelling bee".

i would think nothing of the mother first thought comes to mind is the lil girl who has just been hurt in more ways than one...not only does her ma hold no interest in what she has probably practised hard for but now I am guessing the child may be second guessing it as well.........also if the kid loves to spell well I would think the mother and father should defiently support her in that or anything she chooses to do ~~~ support is huge!!!! and until you have grown up without you don't really know how it feels I can tell you it is the worst feeling in the worl tryin to continually please your mother in everything you do yet she still never says Im proud of you hurts a bunch so please turn it around before it's too late:)
As for the mama bear in this picture selfish! inconsiderate and just hurtful lady ya need to think before you say anything to your kids!

She is an idiot. My daughter is a spelling bee champ and part of what encouraged her to excel was my interest in what she was doing. That mom (and I use that term loosely) is a complete b*tch!
