A city. Numbers, Joshua, Joel, and Micah, no Genesis or Leviticus, sorry. As a city, it was never brought to Moses.

However, in bibles where they leave some original wording, such as is posted below at Ex25:10, etc., but the proper English translation is:
And they must make an Ark of acacia wood, (shittim=acacia)

So, I guess people must post what bible they are reading from or we may get off base with our answers, eh? Cities appropriately keep their name, words meaning something else need to be translated properly. Otherwise Jesus should stay as YESHUA, or whatever the Hebrew pronunciation is, but who can read Hebrew?

Or how about all of the "thous" I think we stopped using that in school just last year? Last one: in many such older bibles 1 COR 10:25 mentions whatever is sold in a "shambles". The primary meaning is "meat market", so why not just say what we will understand?

Hmmm, as far as I knew, Shittim is a city. However, the word seems to be a plural word for something (im indicates masculine plural) so the city may be named after something. I'll see what I can find out.

Ok, yes, as the guy above said, it is Acacia wood. The word may be a loan-word from Egypt. It is the material that was used in the ark, altars, staves, etc. It is frequently mentioned in Exodus in the section where it describes how to make the materials for the tabernacle.

Shittim is the plural of Shittah, which is Hebrew for acacia wood. They were bringing the lumber with which to make the Ark of the Covenant.

Exodus 25:10 And they shall make an ark [of] shittim wood: two cubits and a half [shall be] the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

Exodus 25:13 And thou shalt make staves [of] shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.

Exodus 25:23 Thou shalt also make a table [of] shittim wood: two cubits [shall be] the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

Exodus 25:28 And thou shalt make the staves [of] shittim wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be borne with them.

It is a evergreen tree similar to Cyprus wood. It is almost indestructible, impervious to rot and insects. It was used in constructing the Ark of the Covenant and building the Tabernacle which was used for many years before Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem to house the Arc.

It is a type of wood named after an area by the same name. It is also called achacia wood, and is what Moses used to build the tabernacle and it furniture out of. It is a symbol of the humanity of Christ as seen in the tabernacle because it is very resistant to decay. It was covered with Gold representing Christ's human righteousness covered by His divine righteousness.
To locae it in the Bible you would have to search the KJV.
