Besides the posters and cutains, also try things like:

1 massives amounts of diffrent candles, colors and sizes and dont forget some nice inscents, not that cheap stuff, try a smoke shop for those

2 black lights, thier is a black light marker you can buy that is invisible, that means you can write or draw anything you want on the walls cieling or what ever your goth self desires and no one will know untill you turn the black light on, really cool

3 jewlery not the shiny stuff, but beads and crosses. hang those around your room

4 get a gothik looking rug, so you can cover that pretty looking carpet or floor you have.

5 reds blacks dark blues and greens .... coordinate colors, you want a goth looking room not a fun house.

good luck

buy some plastic black table cloths and get some thumb tacks. Thumb tack the table cloths to the ceiling where it meets the wall to cover the paint. Then you won't be painting, but it will cover your walls with black for very cheap. You may need to cut them a bit at the bottom, but it works, I pinned up grey table cloths to my entire rec room for my daughter's birthday to make the entire room like a brick wall for inside a castle. The completely black walls will give you a goth feel and you can also do whatever you want on the table cloths since they are disposable.

I got my son some big boxes (like appliances come in) - carefully cut them open - so he had big sheets of cardboard. Then I let him spray paint them outside - he chose black, gray and red paint. Then we just attached them to the walls with tacks. We did enough to completely do his whole room. That way - he could have it dark - use a magic marker to write stuff on the "walls" AND it helped sound proof the room. Then - when we moved (we were renting) - all he had to do was take down the cardboard.

I got him a black bed spread, he strung purple lights (they sell them at Halloween) over his bed on the ceiling. We carved gargolye looking creatures out of styrofoam, covered them with gesso and then painted them gray with speckles of white and black on them (so they looked like stone).

Hope that gives you some ideas. Believe me - the cardboard walls really work well - and don't damange anything - and don't cost anything except for the paint.

If you can find them, black sheets pinned to the walls and ceiling corners will darken the surfaces. Cover windows with aluminum foil to completely blot out light. Download "I am Gothic" (Spray) from the Electronica section of an internet music download site and play loudly. There are many versions or "projects" of this classic piece. They will help darken the air in the room.

No need to paint the walls - try finding a ton of fabric that's appealing to you & tack it to the walls.
