Reminds me of this poem by Army General Charles Michael Province:

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Also, something that General Patton once said: "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

Older Men Declare War

that is a personal favorite of mine. the quote goes "Old men declare war. But it is the youth who must fight and die"- Hoover.

basically, the people who make war never have to fight. The people fighting and dying are never the ones who choose to go to war.

Well what the hell are we supposed to do have the old fight our wars? Well theres a great idea, "Hey Grandpa, you wanna come with me to Iraq?" The youth fight and die in war because they have the physical capabilities for combat that the old do not.

You are quoting former US president, Herbert Hoover.

"Older men declare war. But it is youth that must fight and die. And it is youth who must inherit the tribulation, the sorrow, and the triumphs that are aftermath of war."

Hoover was an older guy himself and knew this to be true.

It's true- Politicians Decide to take their country to war, and it's the soldiers who follow the politicians as the leaders of their country and take their orders that have to put their lives on the line...
