Theres a guy I like and he was totally shy for a long time. Finally he got the clue that I liked him. He made more of an effort to talk to me and he finally asked me today if I wanted to "hangout" during winter break. I gave him my phone number and told him to call. My question is, since we are just acquaintences who see eachother all the time at school and make small talk, its not like we really know one another. So when we do go out, do I give him a hug goodnight or will that freak him out? What's the protocol since "hangout" is to get to know one another.

The answer to this depends on how the first "hang out" session goes.

If you find you are totally not interested after this, don't give him any false hope.

If on the other hand you like him after, ask if he wants to do it again, say tomorrow, (or whenever works for both of you).

If the second goes well, give him a pat on the shoulder or two, or squeeze his hand.

If the third goes well then the hug. Keep up the hugs after that, and don't be surprised if you get kissed!

REMEMBER: You can always call it off at any time, either of you.

I don't think there would be a problem with a hug. He seems like he's interested, so I doubt he would mind.
