There are great wines being produced in Paso Robles. Napa seems to be the prime location for top Cabernet Sauvignon. However, wines from Napa do cost more. They have done a good job of marketing themselves to the world.

Three of my favorites wineries in Paso are Opolo, Clautiere, and Turley. Turley and Opolo both produce wonderful Zinfandel. Clautierra has a large selection of great wines.

Paso Robles/San Luis obispo was just voted as the most up and coming wine region a few weeks back by Wine Spectator Magazine. They do great Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Paso areas has more fog than napa does so it gets very hot during the day and then cools down almost 40 degrees over night. So it is a totally different climate area. Napa area is more known for Cab Sauv.

I live in the Napa Valley, and while I like the wines here, I personally prefer Central Coast to Napa. It is a matter of preference of types of wine. I don't care much for Cab. So to me the central coast is far more appealing with Zinfandel. Particularly Wild Horse.

I don't notice a difference with price. Just that they are much less well known than say Mondavi. But key thing to note, a lot of the wineries down there are owned by Napa and Sonoma base companies. Cambria is a Kendall_jackson winery. Meridian is owned by Beringer.

Hope this helps!

it will definitely depend on the weather pattern and grow-yield of each vineyard, but typically speaking napa valley wines have had good weather with good yields.

so yeah don't know how paso wines stack up cuz i don't know the weather pattern, but maybe compare the two weather patterns between a harvest and you'll get your answer.

I guess because 90% of wine in USA comes from Napa Valley, they are world famous. But I will try Paso wines, thanks
