I wouldn't worry about the age difference, a year is hardly anything. I don't think that you have to be overly outgoing if that isn't normally your personality, but just try some small talk like asking how his weekend was or talking to him about something related to what you are doing in PE or Orchestra. The more you talk to him the more comfortable you will be around him, and if he is interested it will encourage him to make a move.

well, i remember those years. and relationships were quick week long things that normally did more harm than good. but if you really think this is a possible something, bring up something he does everyday that you think he may have enjoyment in. what instrument does he play? ask him how he likes it. men are all "me me me" so you need to bring up him to get him to pay attention to you. also, he probally doesn't quite know whats going on, so you can't smother him if you do get into a relationship. that will scare him off. let him make the moves. let him call you. let him decide if he should walk you to class or not. i wish you the best of luck, kiddo.

wow im went through the same thing in 7th grade.
but i didn't know how to act back then, so i lost him.
for me, i work best with older guys because they are more mature. it's just so compatible and here's why;
JUST be mature, but then just ask like yourself.
cause people who are intentionally acting older than their age seem to loose their personality. just balance that in a way.
-don't be obnoxiously loud, as if you are trying to get his attention
-don't stare at him if you aren't going to make a move
you don't know for sure if he likes you unless you talk to him.
ask him something during class.
or like, hey what was your mile time?
haha something simple like that.
and honestly you can't really like a person without getting to know them.
oh yeah; make him go out of of himself.
[as in; be the person to make him go crazy, but in a good way]
because that's pretty powerful to be that person to make him go a certain way.
to be outgoing, is just to go for it.
cause you might loose this chance.
just have fun. and don't worry about what happens next.

guys mature 2 years younger than girls, so treat him like he's a sixth grader. when you talk to him, make the conversation casual, and talk about him and his interests. in my experience, if you make the conversation about THEM, people tend to like you a lot more.

Easy! Buy him an expensive gift, like a car or a house.
That will do.
