In today's world is religion solving or creating more problems? What are the qualities you feel us humans need to develop to make the world a better place? Or do you feel that no matter how technologically advanced we get we never progress as far as fighting amongst ourselves is concerned as it is our nature and it will never change? In your own words, no scriptural text please.

it's not an easy question, i think people are using religion as an excuse to justify what they wanna do, be it bad or good.
I come from a place where religion caused and still is causing a lot of problems (Lebanon). I'm Catholic but i had a lot of muslim friends and what i found is it's not the average person that starts religious problems, it's mostly the higher ups cause they always want more power.

You'd think by now people would be smarter!!!

Okay, scriptures aside... I will assume you are referring to Christian and non- . Religion can help solve age old problems of hatred just so long as it's used as a tool or guide for teaching us to love one another. In addition, religion(s) clash with different beliefs, and traditions to the point of war. It is human by nature to fight amongst ourselves. Agree and, or disagree we have a free will, and to know right from wrong. God gave us a choice and this is our test here on Earth to obey His laws. I have friends who are Catholic, Jewish, Methodist, Baptist, and a few others, one Atheist who became a Christian before dying. One thing for sure is I do not keep company with the Demonic. Yes, I know a few of those too.
But to put all of this in a nut shell, I know there is a forever battle going on Good vs. Evil. Technology hasn't the power to create a soul and never will. So, I'd have to conclude that if we don't succeed in getting along with each other, technology will fail, and we could all perish. It won't matter how advanced our world becomes...bottom line...pray for God's help.

I will try not to quote texts. Basically, religion has and will continue to be the cause of a majority of the world's wars and problems. With that said, people that have a true deep faith rather than just being religious are often the ones who are able to bring about change through peace and not the problems that we are facing today. I think that if we as a culture would spend more money feeding and clothing those who have nothing and sending much needed medicine to those nations we could get off to a good start.

I think that everything has good and bad qualities. Religion can be intolerant and downright evil on some occasions and amazingly wonderful on others. Science is the same way. Personally, I think as a people we are doing a lot better now than we did in the past. Look up the Spanish Inquisition and the Thirty Years' War. We've come a long way.

People fight whether a religion is involved or not. Religious conflict and religious conflict with atheists or government is just another spectrum of turmoil that comes with being (sub)human.

We will change eventually to go beyond war and conflict. The current society though breeds conflict. we can't change if we live the same way forever.

We need to set aside religion in public so that we don't set up barriers that hold us back from caring for others. Not every religious person seeks conflict, though.

What we need to be concerned about are religions that pray for the end to come. These people shouldn't be trusted in high positions.

Ego, vanity, pride, greed.... eliminate or learn to control these and things would be a lot better... but this is not going to happen.

"religion" is man invented, but, "religion" is just an excuse not the cause of man's troubles... I did not own a Bible When I came to God. But I am now of The True Christian Faith... I can say with certainty that God has nothing to do with the woes of this world...and I do not get this from "scripture" But from my personal understanding of God's Word to me... I do study "Scripture" and I can tell you that so long as there are those who refuse to accept the teaching of "scripture" there will be continued strife in the world...

Following The Truth of "Scripture is not "religion" as it is not man invented.

Religion in the common definition of the word will kill you. It is following a particular code which is impossible not to break. Those who have more self control and thereby break it less often always look down on those who break the rules of the code more often. They can't help but think they have a better chance at eternal life than their neighbor with less self-control. Then the neighbor gets mad because the more righteous one seems to be looking down on him. So, hate and maybe murder ensues.
God wants to break through all that. He wants to set humans free from all that. That is why He made a way for everyone, from the least self-controlled to the most self controlled, to gain right-standing with Him. That way is The Christ. Today, if you hear His voice, let His Holy Presence take over and do the work for you. Let Him be your path to The Light. Let Him do for you what no human can do for himself. Today give up trying. Today give up fighting. Today let His righteousness be yours.

the answer is very simple. We have had wars in this world since the beginning of time,in a matter of speaking. We have continue to grow in technology and yet, we continue to see war after war. So the evidence answers your question, no our intelligence will not solve the problems of war because technology only makes it easier for one man to some day rule the world, driving men to strive for all power on earth. As long as others want to rule, there wall always be those who won't settle for a ruler and will fight to the end, bitter or sweet.

I think religion gives people a tool, and an ideal to work toward. Its a guideline for people. It gives people a foundation of morals.

Like so many things, there are a few people who take it for their own use, pervert it, and ruin it for the other people.

Religion itself is not to blame for problems, peoples economic and social problems, and the strain that comes from it is the problem.

Communication is key in life. When we communicate, and talk to other people it humanizes them and gives them a face, so they are not "the other". I think alot of the worlds problems would be solved if we could foster more talks between groups and work on common ground.

Then we can facilitate change.

From the hearts of those who believe in God, charity naturally flows. It is the natural real world expression of Gods love through man. As much as people who do not understand God do evil in His name, I would not suppose to even be able to qualify all the good that is done in His name or all the charity given, even to secular sources in His name.

It is the goal of Christians to build the world toward a reflection of Heaven. What you say about technology is interesting; As our technology advances, often, we forget that we need God, for it becomes easy for us to sate ourselves on unfulfilling human crap in the place of truth.
