As I become older and smarter, Christianity and God sound more and more ridiculous. Am I crazy? Am I alone?

I come from a family with 2 religous parents and a rebellious sister.

I'm 21 years old now and I honestly feel like the "Word of God" isn't real/truth. Its starting to sound like more and more like fear-mongering as opposed to words from an actual God.

I've never spoken with God or Jesus and everyday it sounds like this person i'm supposed to talk to is an "imaginary friend." I still haven't found any concrete proof that God exist and every "blessing" that I receive has a logical explanation.

I'm I going crazy? Is there anyone else feeling like this? Lemme know.

Take a cultural anthropology class at your local community college. You'll learn that people have been creating religion since the dawn of the ages and how it has evolved throughout time as humanity has evolved culturally.

You're not crazy, and only you can answer the alone part. As a matter of fact, you are not very old. However, you may be proud and even more rebellious than your sister.

As I've gotten older(about 2 and one/half times your current age), Christianity and God have become more and more real and logical to me. You will never prove the existence of God, but only a fool says, "there is no God."

When I was your age, I too struggled with demanding proof for the existence of God and unfortunately rationalized all my blessings as having logical explanations. But I was wrong, oh so very wrong and arrogant.

But in His mercy, God allowed me the freedom to piss away my youth as I saw fit in the perpetual pursuit of pleasure and seeking the praise and validation of man. I found that my way and my self-will run riot do end in death, as the true Word of God plainly spells out. But again, I had to waste years proving I knew better than God and mocking His Holy Word.

To make a long story short, when I finally hit bottom pursuing the destructive path I was on, I realized two things. (1) There was a God, and (2) I was not Him.

Go ahead and believe what you want by justifying yourself and intellectualizing what ever it is that you think will make you happy and more savvy than others. Yea, go ahead and show them all.

But friend, you can save yourself a lot of heartache and anguish while you still have the energy and vigor of your youth, by knowing that the God of the Holy Bible is true, awesome, loving, just, forgiving and full of compassion to us sinners, if we will only humble ourselves and call out to Him and acknowledge that, JESUS is LORD.

And then follow Him, yes, seek His wisdom and His guidance in all things, always praying: Thy will be done, not mine.

I have the opposite issue. The older I get and the more research I do into different religions, the more I am convinced that Christianity is the religion of truth. Have you actually read the Bible for yourself? Maybe you've just gone to a fear-mongering type of church. My Bible tells me we should comfort one another with the words in it, not scare each other.

Do more research into other world religions/Christianity and more praying before you give up.

People can make up their own concept of god to fit their experiences and views of the world. It's not ridiculous and can serve a real psychological need.

Christianity is another matter - it can be hilarious, if you aren't burned at the stake first by the high priests. Virgin birth? Raising people from the dead? Curing lepers and the blind? A dead body vanishing from a tomb like a puff of smoke? Whooboy!

I was born to a Christian family but we never really talked about God. I started to have increasing interest in the Bible, but because I really did not attend the church, I did not have anyone to explain things that I had hard time to understand.

I walked away from my childhood faith, but luckily I found my way back. I currently attend a non-denominational Christian church where the Bible is the center of the teaching. I asked Holy Spirit to my heart and things started to be different. I got hunger for my God's word, and He talks to me through His word and circumstances.

I realized that God is God no matter what I think of Him. So I decided that I will seek Him. It is His promise that everyone who seeks Him, finds Him. For me, He is real. : )

It's awesome when we start to think for ourselves, isn't it? Of course you are not crazy! You are discovering for yourself just what it is you believe. It's hard to shake off the years of "fear-mongering" that growing up in a religious family can instill in you, but it can be done - and you are definitely on the right track. Fear should never be the deciding factor in deciding to believe something ..intelligent choices should. Good luck, keep questioning!

In your childhood the parents and God took care of the growing process. Now you are in the first stages of manhood and many people will try to miss-lead you in all manners: too old to believe - too smart - there is no such thing? Were you not told this would happen? did you not study this in the bible courses growing up? The seed has been planted, faith/grace, in you what will you do with it??

You know what hon, as you get closer to your grave, the devil roams around seeking whom he may devour. He is just gathering. With you he doesnt have to work so hard to get you right where he wants you to be. You are not alone. Keep your eyes on some of this questions and you will see how many brothers and sistas you have. Hell will be very populated and there is no air conditioning.
God loves ya!!

Welcome to the real world. Christianity is fearmongering, plain and simple. When I trained for the ministry, that's what we were taught: scare the devil out of people. Yes, it is all bullsheet and God is no more real than Santa Claus and the tooth fairy. Go to your nearest Barnes and Noble and in the magazine section find a copy of The Progressive. Start reading it. You will soon find yourself immensely enlightened.

No you're not crazy. A lot of people feel this way.

I myself believe in God.

There is no actual proof that He exists..the only thing that says it is the Bible which was written by Jesus' followers.

But I myself believe He's real just because Jesus and his evangelists proclaimed it and the whole story of Jesus' birth revolves around angels from the Lord. ect.
