Sometimes when I'm in my room I hear a high pitched buzzing/ringing sound. The sound isn't just in my head because when I turn my head and move around the room, the sound still seems to be coming from the same place, my TV. The sound seems to be there sometimes even when the TV is off too. My TV is fairly old. What could be causing this noise? I wasn't sure where to put this question, but since it may have something to do with something in my TV, I put it here.

Televisions have a coil of wire in them called the flyback transformer. Sometimes as winding of this can be loose and the high frequency signal going through it can cause the loose part to vibrate and cause a whining/ringing sound.

I have noticed the buzzing for many years, from various TV's.... There are many components in a Television that could cause this, but my guess would be the transformer that converts the voltage. More than likely the core is vibrating.. but that is just a guess, I do not have experience with designing TV's

The high pitched buzzing is usually from a ballast beginning to fail in a fluorescent light or from the filament in a conventional (incandescent) light bulb vibrating as alternating current (AC) runs through it.
