What if I invited my Indian friend over and disguised pork in a dish and he ate it? Does it mean his salvation is compromised? I find this "not eating pork" thing to be ridiculous.

Moslems do not eat pork for the same reasons Jews do not...it is a dietary law found in the Old Testament. This tradition is thousands of years old and you have no right to have a negative opinion about it. Would you eat dog or cat? In some countries this is perfectly normal food and they think Americans are strange for not eating it. People from India who are Hindu do not eat cow meat because the cow is a sacred animal in their culture. Your friend from India must be Islamic, from your question.
If you were to serve him pork, disquised, you would not compromise his salvation, but you would prove yourself a false friend.

Two answers: for Muslims, it is unclean for them. Pork is forbidden because of the type of animal a pig is; a pig is so disgusting that it will eat it's own breathing, living young if you don't watch it. For Hindis, animals are considered to be the reincarnated souls of people (and other animals - other animals were people in some earlier life). Therefore, they are considered to be sacred life, and to kill one of them influences karma. EVERY action gives karma. It's not what most people think, that if you do something good, you'll get good back, and vice versa. Karma is the belief that everything that goes in and out of a person must be equal, including actions. Every breath is considered an act of karma. So, you'd best hope that you end your life with a breath opposite that which it began with.

Because God tells them in their holy books not to eat it b/c it's unclean. It's a big deal to them. I don't think their salvation will be compromised, but I think they would feel really bad & separated from God, in a sense. Similar to the way a christian or anybody will feel when they do something they know is against what they believe in. Why would you do something so disrespectful as that, knowing they don't eat it? If you find it ridiculous, then eat all of it you want, but you should respect the beliefs of others.

What if the Quran said drinking poison was forbidden? You would just laugh it off saying well duh it is deadly. Well pork is not much different. Albeit not as deadly as poison but it is very unhealthy as proved by modern science and not to mention it is a very dirty animal also. Therefore it is forbidden in Islam. Eating meat is not allowed in Hinduism because of respect for life. I suggest you respect everyones belief and not come up with ideas which do good to nobody except maybe an evil mind.

BIBLICAL DIETARY LAWS

Biblical dietary laws, including the prohibitions of Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14, are among the many health laws God gave to Israel. Jesus, the apostles, and the early New Testament church observed them, and they remain in effect today. Scripture indicates that laws pertaining to “clean” and “unclean” animals were recognized and observed from earliest times.

pork is forbidden in all religions not just islam.people needs to stop following their desires and follow what allah(Swt) has ordered us to do .that is to worship him and do not worship any other than him and do not put partners side to him nor he has been begot nor is he begotten.like the former bro ahmed deedat may allah(Saw)grant him jannah firdaws.ameeeeeeeen .there is no such word as begotten.
In the book of Leviticus, Chapter 11, v.7, it is recorded that God declares the pig to be unclean for believers. Then, in verse 8, God says: ' You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you'. This command is repeated in Deuteronomy 14;7-8. Then, in Isaiah 65:2-4, and 66:17, God issues a stern warning against those who eat pork.
Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah."

For jews the reason why we don't eat it is because it is against the laws of kosher for it does not chew its own cud and doesn't have a solid hoof. I find it disturbing that you would eat such an intelligent animal to begin with, really cows I don't care about or chickens they're not the brightest bulbs but pigs... It's like eating a dog.

Have you ever seen the skin of a pig up close, or looked at it's features? Actually, they all look very human. Human ears (spare parts) can be cultured on the skin of pigs.

Now, the gross part is that if you eat pig, it's like you're eating another human being.

Besides, pigs are very dirty animals, at least in the way the live in most parts of the world, where they feed on trash, live and bathe in filthy mud, slime, and their own feces.
