NOPE Hybrid's are a HIPPIE SCAM!!! If you only got it 2 days ago you still have time to return it and buy a regular vehicle the added cost of a Hybrid will EASILY buy any excess fuel a non-hybrid car will use. as a note todays cars actually get WORSE gas mileage than the cars produced 30-40 years ago. Think about it the original Corollas got upwards of 40MPG and the Honda CVCC's were getting close to 50. My dads 64 Galaxie with a 289 high performance V8 gets 36 MPG. All of this "NEW" technology is a scam!!!

Wow. That sure is a lot of work to do to squeeze out a very few more mpg. My old diesel Rabbit pickup is gets right about 50 mpg on the highway and I basically just drive the heck out of it.
I understand the newer VW TDI diesel cars easily get similar mileage. They also have a pretty high resale values. I've been offered four times what I paid for my old VW.

Brand new car requires a certain amount of mileage on the engine before it will start getting better gas mileage. Also, you will need to learn how to break in your engine properly, so that your piston rings will be tight against the cylinder walls. And i heard from some people that when you cruise in the highway, you must put it in cruise control (if it even has one)

My family is all Toyota. I drive a Tacoma 4x4, my dad drives a tundra, mom drives a prius, sister drives a brand new prius, brother who is in traveling sales loves his prius to death! I say the prius is a fabulous car with great practicality for modern city living. When they make a hybrid Tacoma you can bet that I will be on a list someplace to own one.

Your Prius has a learning computer system in it... Its Not cut and dry... Its all in your driving habbits and HOW you have to use it....

Remember you only use the electrical part of your system at lower speeds and sitting waiting to take off... When you take off and flying down the hwy its all gas... Putt Putting around town its electric til you have to step into it, to get out of someone way or change lanes and accel...

I drove my aunts and got 38 mpg,,, my aunt drove back and got 52 mpg... on a 300 mile around trip with 4 people...And my aunt seems to like it NOW....

Happy motoring....

The mpg does increase over the first 10,000 miles as it runs in.

the car adapts to your driving style, and you will adapt to it, it is much more relaxed than others.

check the right grade of oil is used, and it is not overfilled,
.
there are yahoo boards for the prius, look up ones for the country you are in they will be happy to advise.
US gallons are smaller than everyone elses.

It might get the 50 going down hill with a tail wind. You would have done better with a normal car. Perhaps your old one.

The high mileage predicted is for 'Highway' only usage. You have to eliminate the 'City' mileage and avg it then.
