Fade the edge (edges) of a photo? I would like to fade the edges so I can blend the edge of the photo into another area. What I mean is that I want to blend two photos or a photo and another graphic without hard edges.

FROM A SINGLE PHOTO FILE

Render your image into a layer by double clicking "Background" in your layers palette and then click OK when the box pops up on your screen.

Select the inverse of the area you wish to fade and then go to "Selection>Invert Selection."

Then, go to "Selection>Feather" to define a feather amount. For 72 resolution, standard sized, about 18px should be okay. If you have a 300-res image, try about 60px. You may have to play with this a bit.

Press Delete once you have set your feather amount and the edges will be faded from full opacity to zero opacity. You can then change your canvas size and add other images, or copy and paste the feathered image into another photoshop document and retain your "fade."

Hope this helps.

PS: Pressing Delete multiple times once you have set your feather amount will increase the fade.

Also, you might consider buying a book on Photoshop if you intend to do a lot of things like this. It is a very in-depth program and you would really enjoy some of the more advanced features if you like doing stuff like this. =)
