Why does the nurse sometime slap your butt before an injection there? Has anybody experienced this? What'd you do after?

It kind of freaked me out.

It's an old trick to get you to flinch and relax the muscle just before the shot. You are usually so keyed up over it that you tense up and it makes the shot harder to give and recieve. If you time it right, and make jab right before you stick the needle in, you can get in without the patient feeling much of anything or at least nearly as much pain. If you try to inject in a tensed muscle,it can be done, but it takes more power behind the needle and is much more painful to recieve.

It makes your muscle tense up. She needs it to be in the muscle and not in the fat. Sorry, I'm sure she didn't mean it!
