I only use an oil fired furnace. So I figure if I do this I would run the cord down to a cut in area 10' above the furnace outlet?

as an elctrician all I can say is you can do anything you like, you just assume the risk of fire or whatever. In your case ... if you don't bunr fires in the fireplace or if the heat from the oil burning isn't too hot SURE, what the hell! But you might want to plug the cord into a GFI plug (one with a test button on it) for safety if you have one!

Well, I wouldn't, but only you know if the exhaust gets hot enough to melt the electric cord. Better to be safe than sorry. I don't know what other options you have. Good luck.

Not a wise thing to do. Buy additional outdoor extension cords and plug into that.
Have a safe Holiday.

You are in serious danger of cancelling your fire insurance. You must be joking.
