We are getting married this saturday, and I need to know--how much do you 'gift' the preacher?

He said it wasn't necessary, but if I wanted to give him a gift, I could. How much do I give him? The janitor is getting $75, the organist is getting $125. (These are pre-set rates, the rates that they normally charge.)

It is traditional to give the $ to your best man to give the officiant. Typically $50 - $100 is good.

Depending on the size of the wedding. Think about it this way without him you aren't married. if the organist is getting $125 don't you think he should get more? However, ask around those you know who were possibly married by him before... They always say it's not necessary... Good Luck

I am getting married in a few months. From people I know who have gotten married, including my brother a few months ago, 100 dollars is about normal. Remember, most ministers don't get paid extra from the church for weddings, so 100 is a nice gesture for all the help they will give you in planning your ceremony and marrying you. My brother (and I also will) invite the priest to the reception as well.

He is giving up his Saturday and has probably helped you with marriage counseling. You should pay him more than the organist....discreetly (maybe even have your father or another relative give it to him) in a card with a note saying how much his performing the service meant to you.

Usually in Toronto we give about $150 Canadian dollars if there isn't a set fee. That would probably work out to around $125 US. I hope this helps and congrats from Canada!

Correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't this the same person how is giving you a life sentence?

.......I've always understood it ot be double the rental rate for the highest paid person there ..... ie - Organ player ... No not the hooker in the back row...the musician !

I would give a minimum of $100 (especially if they spent time to meet with you prior to the actual wedding day). We gave $250 to our church for both the coordinator & priest.

Maybe $100. If you go to the church, ask one of the members that you trust (deacon, treasurer, associate pastor).
He doesn't have to know what the others received.
