I bought a universal remote control for my t.v. and it doesn't work.?

Someone threw the packaging away so I am unable to return or look for any directions. Any suggestions. I guess I am wondering does universal remotes require some sort of programming.

Do a search on the internet for the brand of remote you have, and visit the company's website. I'm willing to bet that you will find some codes listed there.

If that doesn't work, do the same for your tv. A quick google search on "Remote Control Codes" for the model/brand of your TV could give you the answer you need.
