but HOW do you teach them not to hurt them??? i caged my dogs in the kitchen, and last night they came out when we were at work, and i found me kitty dead, after about5 months of having him since, he was a new born, it was really chocking, after that period of time of being together.

When you can't watch them keep them seperated. Make sure you teach them dogs that the kitty is off limits

Yes...but it takes quite a bit of work...
I have a 75 lb. shepard/golden mix that grew up chasing squirrels and chipmunks and basically hunting anything on our 12 acres of property. When I decided to adopt 2 8 week old kittens, I was very afraid he would eat them/kill them. So...we isolated the kitties in the laundry room with their food and litter and we all spent time in there with them giving them love and attention. But, twice a day we had "kitty time" with our dog. First off, by having them in a room in our house, he could smell them under the door and then smel their scent on us as well. When we had kitty time, we would collar and leash our dog and keep him in a down and stay (one person had to hold him VERY tight!) while we let the kitties out to smell him and crawl around him (and sometimes even ON him). It took 2 months of this very carefully attended kitty time, but eventually we were able to let the kitties out on their own and now my dog and the kitties are best of friends! He will still hunt bunnies and the like, but has learned that the cats are a part of the family.
Now....you have a pitbull mixes...I am not sure if that breed will have the right temperment or not, but I believe you CAN train any animal IF YOU ARE CONSISTENT AND PATIENT!

They sure can. I just got a Boston Terrier puppy and already had a cat in the house. The two of them play together. The cat still has his claws but does not scratch the puppy. They actually play on the floor and the puppy climbs all over the cat. I am not saying all cats and dogs will get along. You should introduce them to each other gradually and do not leave them alone until you are sure one will not harm the other.

I have an 11 year old cat and about a month ago got a puppy. They get along great. I have had no problems with them getting along. This is not the first time that I have introduced puppies to older cats and I have not had a problem. I have also introduced younger cats to older dogs without a problem. It really depends on the individual temperament of the animals involved.

it quite is not ordinary to declare how the cat will react to the dogs yet you will get a feeling of how the dogs could react to the cat. carry some thing with you to the rescue place that has the cats scent throughout it. enable the dogs scent it. If it reacts in an aggressive or overly excited way, it may act that way with the cat. Do get one that has been in a house with different pets. After awhile the two gets used to the assumption of sharing the comparable domicile. That cat could initiate off scared yet whilst the dogs leaves it on my own, it will relax i'm useful. sturdy success. The dogs you rescue would be an somewhat fortunate dogs.

Situations vary. Cats and dogs can co-exist; my daughter has Rottweilers who don't bother any of the eight cats that she keeps. Bottom line: if you want cats, get rid of the dog.

It just depends, I would think that if he already killed some though, that it is to late. Also it depends if you really want a cat. Sometimes you have to chose one.
