I have treated many infants who have suffered a stroke at birth. Recovery will depend on where in the brain it happened, how big it was, and if it affected limbs, feeding and/or swallowing.
Most babies who have had strokes fare quite well at learning language and speech because other areas of the brain will take up the slack.
Be sure she is getting occupational and physical therapy. Call in the speech pathologist if her lips and/or tongue are involved, or she has difficulty sucking or swallowing.
Above all, have faith that she will do well. Early intervention will help her along.

My mom's friend's daughter had a stroke at birth. She is developing pretty normally (she is around 2 years now), but does not have full range of montion on her neck. She has to turn her whole body to look in a direction, or give sideways glances. I believe her parents have her in physical therapy to work on this.

I'm sorry about what happened. Remember, everyone--babies included--heals differently and at different rates. Good luck to you and your family. :-)
