What should I do? She's never had this reaction to it before. And my other chihuahua is perfectly fine...what can I do?

Sometimes dogs have a reaction to the heartworm medication even if they didn't have one previously. Watch her overnight and if she is not better tomorrow call your vet.

My 5 year old female chi has a reaction to heartworm meds too. She gets lethargic (hides a lot) and doesn't eat. It's the ivermectin (she does the same thing with Revolution which is selemectin).

Personally I wouldn't give her any more of it. Ask your vet about it. There are a couple of other heartworm meds that don't contain Ivermectin. Your other option is to not give her any heartworm meds and have her tested every 6 months (this allows any infection to be caught early enough for an "easy" treatment). I got this info from a vet.

If your dog has not had a heartworm check in six months to a year, even though she takes heartworm treatment regularly, you might want the Vet to check her and make sure she is clear because heartworm medication can make a dog real sick if they are heartworm positive.
Talk to your Vet in any case, but that thought came to mind.
Some reasons dogs can get heartworms when on medication: if they are taking too little because of weight gain, if they threw up the medicine and you might not have noticed, if you quit giving it during winter mos., etc.

I have chihuahuas and one of them throws up several times a month, with no real identifiable reason. I have taken her to the vets and they have told me there is no particular reason but some dogs are prone to it.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it continues for more than a day or two.

Sometimes a dog or pup will have a slight reaction to some meds even when they didn't have one before. Just watch her tonight and if she is still throwing up tomorrow, take her to the vet just to make sure nothing else is going on.

My Chihuahua always threw up after I gave him any kind of worm medicine. Are you sure you gave him the correct dose? Maybe too much? try mixing it up real good in some kind of food he really likes.

Babe what do you expect heart worms are very dangerous and if she puking it most likely means the worms are going and she/he is getting rid of them. You must have had the dog to the vet to get these tablets because you cant buy them across the counter. If you not sure seek the advice of the vet. they will give you advice over the fone for no cost.
