i received a letter and check stating i won a large sum of money from lottery numbers i picked on line. i was told to deposit the check and send them a portion of it for insurance. once it was recieved they would fed x me a large sum of money. the check is from maryland, the letter is from washington, and the envelope is from canada. should i cash the check?

If I were you I wouldn't, this sounds like a lottery scam.

Do not cash the check unless you have money to throw away. Your bank will require you to repay every penny. This is a scam like "Free Lotto" and Barclay's Bank and The World Bank scam. Save the check to use as evidence and call your local FBI office and explain the scam and the bogus check. They may want it.

Its fraud. Call the bank (or look them up on the internet) and I'm sure they will tell you its a fake check. Basically they send you a fake check and ask you to pay the insurance (which they cash and keep) and by the time the check bounces you have already paid them in "insurance" I got one too. If it sounds too good to be true (in money) then it usually is.

see if it is officially from the lotter.

maybe it's just a fake.

and dont trust an unofficial website nor letter.!

that is a scam some people i know were taken for thousands of dollars in this scam!!!
