First of all to JIM you have ex Marine in you're title there is no such thing as a ex Marine. Once a Marine always a Marine. To the Question Boot Camp they do try to break you down and build you up. There is also alot of information they throw at you about Corps history. The physical part is alot easier then the Mental.

The psychology of training actually "conditions" the mind of the recruit. The harsh reality of training forces the recruit to learn important lessons such as self-control, selflessness, team spirit, taking orders no matter how dangerous, understanding the equipment and so on.
Take for example, team spirit. During training, recruits will help each other go through difficult obstacles. While this may sound basic, it instills the concept of "look out for each other."
Another example is the understanding of equipment. While we may think that means knowing how to use guns and grenades, it is quite the contratry.
During training, the Marine recruit, along with his buddies, is taken to a tent and ordered to don on gas masks. The drill sergeant then pops a can of harmless but irritating gas. Nothing happens. Everyone is safe in their gas masks. Then...they are ordered to take their masks off! After the indignities of mild suffocation and throwing up are over, the bone shaken recruits really understand the value of their equipment they carry and do not take it for granted. It is really emotional mind training rather than physical.
I can go on and on giving examples but I think you get the point. Hope this answers the question.

To raise your aggression level
I'm glad I came back to look at this question. A lot of the answers you're getting apply to general military training. The Army teaches soldiers to throw a frag the same way a Marine does. Guess what, a vertical butt stroke is executed the same way by both. The USMC doesn't have any secret hand to hand killing techniques the Army doesn't teach. Teamwork ditto. The stronger discipline of Marine Basic Training leads to more self confidence and a higher aggression level than Army Basic

to force you to abandon your silly civilian ways and think for your self and to be resourceful to hate the enemy, and to want to kill him, to work as a team, and have respect and discipline. to shoot , if you don.t know how, swim. ride a skate on a wire across a river ,climb a tree scale a wall , and to many thing to mention here but you get the idea, in other words be a man that can be depended on, and take control when necessary.

To force you to work as a team, as you have to in combat. One man can't take a hill by himself.
