I have a mini schnauzer male, on Wednesday, he puked and had the runs, now it is Thursday and he still has the runs. I just gave him water the first day, and today I re introduced his food. He is drinking, not eating well and still runny.... He is 3 yrs old and up to date on all his shots... any suggestions? Or would you call Vet?

Call the vet. they can prescribe a medication to help the diarrhea and vomiting and check for illness with an exam. Mini schnauzers are small enough where they can dehydrate fairly quickly.

If he puked and had the runs that is very concerning for some sort of obstruction. If he's drinking but not eating, that could also mean blockage. Get him to a vet as soon as possible. Hopefully it's not too serious, but if he's not better after 24 hours off food then you need a vet's opinion.

first of all have you changed his diet in any way? this can really cause problems as it has to be done gradually until used to the new food. any different kinds of treats been added? same thing.Go get some pepto bismo the pink stuff and take away his food for at least 8 to 10 hours except for water. pull the bottom lip down and it will kind of make a pocket and pour about 1 tablespoon in there. do not put it straight down his throat. u can use an eye dropper to put it in the lip pocket. do this at least 4 times a day something about the ensignes. It does work and I got this from a vet when my dog was throwing up and my tennants had been feeding them ky chicken and piz za when all they ever had in thier diet was dog food and I did not know this till my dog got sick and spent 5 days at the pet hospital and they used the pepto and he told me to keep it on hand and I save alot of vet bills when you see it easing up reduce the dosage. It does work. watch greasy and spicy foods as they can cause bleeding ulcers if your dog is not used to this.also start him back on small amounts of food. lean hamburger and rice is good till the symptons are all gone. make sure there are no plants around to nibble on

If withholding food for 24 hours didn't do the trick, he should go to the vet. If you wait too long, he could get a lot worse, and sometimes these cases cost hundreds of dollars to treat, when if you had taken him to the vet right away, he could have been treated for less than $100. Good Luck!!

Definitely, get him into the vet as this could be the sign of something more serious. In the meantime, you can try to feed him some hamburger mixed with rice (make sure you drain the fat off the meat after you've cooked it). I've done this before and it helps a doggie with the runs.

He may have gotten into something you don't know about or swallowed something blocking his intestines. I personally would make a call to the vet, in the meantime you should feed him some rice flavored with beef stock, the rice will bind him and is good for his stomach, now go call the vet!

As already mentioned by other readers...go to a vet. It is safer and faster with the medication.

Advice is not to feed the dog with all sorts of food -- small breed dogs tend to get diarhrea, when their stomach environment is upset -- usually with too much "human" food.

We had similar problems before with our two small dogs -- and it was overfeeding them with "human" food -- unfortunately, my husband spoils them...

Have you changed his food lately? that could have caused it if you have, sudden changes in food can cause these symptoms.
What I would do is try and get him to eat and drink and see how he goes tonight-if nothing has changed and/or still has runny poo tomorrow then take him to the vet.
But see how he goes tonight first, unless it gets worse, if it gets worse take to the vet earlier than tomorrow.
Good Luck!

If you are certain he had his Porvo vaccination then you might want to take him in to the vets to see what's wrong with him. Better safe than sorry. My dog died 2 days ago. She was 12.
