Our Spiritualist religion is not based on any book. But we do try to be familiar with most books to be informed.

If you are calling Christianity religion the reason we go to the Bible is because it is the only way we have to learn about God. If you are going to study math you must go to a math book or have a very limited knowledge. So it is with the Bible, We find out God loves us and wants to show great and mighty things which we don't know. God said if you seek Him you will find Him and you will know the mystery of Heaven.

What makes you think that the "books" you refer to aren't experiences of the people of the past?
Your question begs... in 100 years... will the person reading the "books" (history) of the day ask the same thing???

Because two people can go through the same experience and not agree on how it went.
Books, like the Bible, give us a clear and unchanging point of view.

Because what is written in Holy books (or whatever is considered holy) is already a big step. If you read the Bible through (you can probably skip Numbers), you'll think completely differently. Besides, if you don't read the Bible, how will you know of all the miracles Jesus did?
